Radio (FM/AM) aerial

I have a really long whip antennae mounted on the guard of the Deefer. In fact its too long, and flops around like a ***** in a shirtsleeve.

What aerials are other people running, and mounted where?

Is a guard mount preferable to a bull bar mount. The latter might get annoying when it moves around, but the former would be a PITA especially if I am going to chequer-plate the guards.

My antenna is 5' long and yes, floppy, but as it's tuned for SW as well as AM, I can pull in stations from far away. ABC Darwin from Sydney area, Japan, NZ Pacific islands etc. The longer the antenna, the better is the reception, so if YOU go with a shorter one you'll probably get a drop off with reception.

My 2000 td5 130 came with a telescopic antenna on the gard that was hopeless so I used an old AM CB antenna that I had for years in "might come in handy one day" pile that is made of SS and is about 700mm long. Works really well for both am and fm radio.

Same length as a UHF antenna cable....

Maybe get a piece of string and run it from bull bar through eminent bag p firewall than add a bit

I've just fitted a Mobile1 base(it uses a different coax to 27mhz and UHF) and a 1560mm antenna.
The standard 1.6mtr lead is quite OK for guard mounting.
They do other set lengths up to 5.0mtr or made to order, great for caravans.

A drive way test picked up Warrnambool local AM, @ 300km away and Devonport @ 400Km away.

For the bull bar either go the same length as a UHF lead or grab bit of wire or string and run it our where you want to run your cable to get the length.
This can allow for dropping the cable down along the bull bar rather than through the grille etc..
It will end up a neater job if it's done this way as you can choose the route behind dash also.
Always allow a little extra in case you change your route as it's fitted.
