Hi All...couldn't budge the wheel nut covers using the Extractor Took LR provide in the kit and in the process, I noted I'd broke 3 of the tiny plastic bits that fit behind the covers so I'm snookered ! Any suggestions as to how to get them off now ? Surely there must be a more robust tool than a plastic thingamagig to remove them ...This was my first 'mechanical' job, I was just trying to see how the bottle jack worked and where everything was but now dreading getting a puncture until I find out how to remove those covers !

leave them on just take the one of that has the dimple as it is your security nut.
I dont know what you mean by the extractor tool, there is a tool for removing the security nut the rest of the nuts are regular LR wheel nuts.
If I was you Id buy 5 normal LR wheel nuts and be done with the locking ones.

After I broke the tool to remove the lock nut cover I used a screwdriver to prise them off and then removed the locknuts and replaced with standard whhelnuts.

As others have already suggested...

Its only the one dimple chrome cover you need to remove off the one locking wheel lug on each wheel.

And replace all the locking wheel lugs with standard wheel lugs and get a decent wheel brace, I supply them to customers as a kit, 4 wheel lugs, 600mm brace, long reach 1 1/16 six point socket.

Gees, thats a relief (I thought when that plastic 'extractor tool' broke I was done for) ...I'll replace those nuts with LR standard and get the socket wrench to suit as advised, thanks all of you (I only noticed one of the covers had a dimple rather than a dome after reading these responses ?) I'm only a 'wet day' on the site and cant believe the activity and speed of responses. I'll try and upload pics of my 04/09 Defender 110 ...ULYSSES

Ha ha ha I remember my first Deefer I thought they were all plastic caps as well.

I had done what everyone else has done and only left the lock nut on the spare wheel and replaced the others with normal nuts.

Make sure no one ever uses a rattle gun on the lock nut tool, or that will screw it right up.

I have to change mine on the new Deefer now as well.

And don't worry doesn't matter how silly a question seems, we are all guilty, some just don't admit it.
