I just thought this would be a normal caravan thread...
An oblivious moron driving an underrated POS towing a flat on wheels has no idea what's happening behind him. Seems pretty standard to me...

From this I am guessing the Qld police lack of force are like Victoria's feather duster police.
Not allowed to chase anymore in Vic.

Police ambulance and the fire brigade all must obey the road rules (I am a fire fighter). There are special dispensations, but whatever is happening you are expected, actually trained to drive in a defensive manor. There is a great advanced driving course for the fire brigade where you slide a fire truck all over the place and push it too its limits. On the road though you need to obey the rules more than anyone as the general public see flashing lights and do unexpected stupid things so the emergency services driver needs to anticipate this. I am not surprised the cop is indicating it will be second nature for the driver. Also if things go pear shaped and the Police driver has done anything wrong like not indicating resulting in an accident you would not want to be in his shoes...

I'd imagine the cops thought that provoking a lunatic was not worth the potential carnage and figured they'd catch him soon enough when he stopped to make himself a cuppa.
UPDATE: POLICE have arrested a 33-year-old man, of no fixed address, in relation to the incident.
The man was arrested at Hungry Head Beach carpark and charged with stealing and traffic matters relating to the pursuit.
He was refused bail to appear in court on Tuesday.

What the police should be allowed to do and what they are allowed to do are different things.
It's not like it was a high speed chase, why bother trying to take him down? Let him run out of puff and grab him quietly

the cost of the police operations to catch him would be more than the $12 he stole from coles.

And in Vic it is just an on the spot fine for shoplifting if it is under a certain amount and first offense.
Can't remember how much, but from memory it was less than a high level speeding fine and as a bonus no demerit points:)

You're assuming the dingbat wasn't already known to the local police, perhaps they knew he'd been parking in the same spot for some time and just waited for him to go back there. I mean, how do you run away when your rig is that distinctive? And as a petty thief he probably has run out of money to buy fuel and would be spotted by any service station operator for miles around.

And risk being injured themselves by some moron who is probably off his face on mind altering substances and with no respect for the law or other road users. Or risk damage to two police vehicles and ending up with them off the road and out of service at a critical time when the roads are so busy with holiday makers.

The whole chase or not to chase thing has me vexed. On the one hand, nab him later, let him stop for a whizz then grab him.
However, on the other, every metre he drives erratically is a metre he can and eventually will, hurt or maim an innocent. Whether by running a light and hitting uncle Joe or mounting the curb and squashing baby Shani-qua.
I'd hate to have to confront a young constable at a coroners inquest and ask him/her why he/she didn't stop the purp 10 blocks back instead of letting him drive crazy and kill Grandpa.
Just my thoughts!

I've looked at that video several times. He wasn't particularly eratic. He indicated to change lanes to pass (overtake) the third police car. He did not appear to be speeding or braking any road rules, apart from not stopping as directed by the police.
We don't know the full story. I suspect the police knew where to nab him so, in the interests of public safety, left it for another time.

What a great idea. Give him time to unload his stash of drugs and weapons.
When the feather duster Vic police announced that they will no longer chase a car, a retired policeman slammed this policy based on his experience of what they found in the car when the caught it.
The police now say they have other means to catch the offender at a later time, which give the perp time to offload all the illegal gear that was in the vehicle.

When police attempted to pull the man over, he sped off and did a U-turn across four lanes of Pacific Highway traffic.
i went back and reread the article.
u-turn across 4 lanes of the highway, i believe he's a threat to others.
i then re-watched the video, his driving is erratic, you can hear he has his foot to the floor.
instead of shooting out the tires they should of shot out the driver.

Just imagine if the bloodthirsty fantasies of some commenters came true and all Oz police patrols were issued with assault weapons strong enough to take out a miscreant on the fly (and were trained to never ever miss a speeding target from their moving vehicles, ha ha). You'd end up in a crap hole like the southern US or Russia where bystanders lives were cheap and cops could and do shoot you for just being cheeky. I remember the you toob vid where a whole bunch of Russian cops tried to stop a 4WD and it took several minutes and hundreds of bullets. All I can say it's a good thing our cops used their intelligence instead of their dick extenders to catch the moron concerned. ;)

No need to unload in Victoria. Even when caught, the charges can be dropped because there isn't enough evidence.

Muck up with legal firearms and the book is thrown at you. The legal system clearly likes criminals:mad: "Ms Micallef was allegedly caught with nine firearms in her car in March along with an array of blades.
The cache included a sub machinegun, a rifle, a non-sawn-off rifle, a pump-action shotgun, double-and single-barrel shotguns and ammunition."
The word allegedly amazes me.

theyre not semi automatic , theyre gas and return spring operated....you could call them self loading.....no...you could call them self cocking.
pull the trigger they fire one round. same as a revolver.
they have a sear which holds the working parts to rear each time it fires.
rate of fire is determined by how quick you can pull the trigger each time it fires.
accuracy decreases by square of the trigger pulling speed.....badly (my words alone)

Allegedly just means the allegation has been made against her in a court, but the court hasn't decided if the claim is true or false yet.

I know that location in Coffs. Its the Pacific Highway right through the centre of town. The big white building in the background is the RSL Club. It is jammed with traffic at Christmas. Obviously the cops would have identified his vehicle, chose not to cause a crash in the centre of town, and would have followed him and either tailed him until he stopped or forced him over on a quiet road. Very responsible police behaviour I'd say. They should be praised, not criticised.

I agree "Allegedly" is a word to protect people from false allegations. Facts are the guns and other weapons are in the car the little thug or girlfriend of thugs drives. Who owned or uses the clearly not legal weapons may be up for debate. Our world ruled by legal processes seems to work for criminal not us mug punters,
All this post is an Allegation of course which may or may not be ever true or untrue unless a court provided a legal decisions unless of course in the real world what is a bare faced fact is accepted by 99% of non legal types or thugs who like the law to make Allegations only. The ute flimed towing the van Allegedly might be CGI of course in a legal setting. It simply was as shown in the rest of the world.
