Clutch replacement series vehicles

Hi everyone,
Just wondering why so many people go to all the trouble of removing seat boxes and floors and tail shafts gearbox and transfer case etc just to replace the clutch on a series vehicle, (with a welded x member)? :banghead:
I would think it a heck of a lot easier and quicker to pull the engine out, and less trouble. I did it this way in my s3 with a 186 fitted and cabstar box. I just seemed to be more sensible to me.
I would do the same on my s2a 2.25 petrol if i needed to replace the clutch in the future.

because with all that stuff stripped out, you close the doors, slide a 2x4 across the door tops, tie the gearbox to the beam, spanish windlass it a bit with the jack handle or crank handle then just swing it back and out of the way, that way you dont need an engine crane, or a concrete floor upon which to do the work.

In fact, it is possible (just) to change the clutch without removing any of this by sliding the gearbox back. Did this in the Simpson in 1966.
