SWMBO reckons every car must have a name.

Kinda stuck for inspiration and was thinking Frank (the tank) but I have used this for a previous vehicle (80 series LC)

What do you call your Disco?

SNEAKIE
For a multitude of reasons.
A- After getting a rapid education on all the things that are going on behind the scenes in these vehicles, whilst your casually cruising along. I figured the vehicle is always up to something no matter what the situation:).

B- describes what keeps happening to the speedo { thank god for cruise control}-

C- When I first got the car I couldn't believe how quiet it was, both inside and out. {that was pre accessories}, still quiet though.

D- Just for the way the K's disappeared on a long journey without really noticing it and so little driver fatigue.:BigThumb:

Named by a friend after he was kind of impressed with all the technology and features in the 2014 SE D4.

"The Enterprise"

He has also referred to our new caravan that we will be getting shortly as:

"The Habitation Module"

I'm surprised no one call's their Disco 'Travolta' or 'Tony' (from Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever) or 'Bee Gee' or 'Gloria' (Gaynor) or 'Donna' (Summer) or 'Diana' (Ross)

It'd only be right and correct. :D

I hope no one has to play this when swapping from one Disco to another.

My son has called ours T-Rex. He likes to tell all his friends that it's the biggest, meanest dinosaur.
The best thing is when he roars at little cars as we pass them.

Similar story for me: I needed a name for a mobile base call sign whilst flying gliders on safari (SWMBO in white Disco with van in tow, yours truly in the air), so she became "Kelvinator Base"...! Gotta laugh.

On my 2nd D4, best vehicle I have ever owned.

I needed a call sign at a mining job recently. Thought "LRD1" was logical :D

My Wife's car is white, so its called "the white car" and My Disco is called "the blue car" - sorry, but life is so much easier at my place that way :)

Previous owner called mine 'Lizzy' but that name didn't make the transfer. The kids (5 and 6 yo) call the Disco 'Zoom' and my wife's Megane RS 'Zoom Zoom'. I wonder what they might call a car that actually goes really fast.....

My Jeep driving step father read an article that used the 'pope mobile' name and thought it was just hilarious, so much so he highlighted it and posted it to me. Though, I've recently had the last laugh with his Jeep (Commander- such an ascetically pleasing car.....) needing three trips to mechanics on a round trip to Geelong from the Gold Coast.

I have adopted a simple system.

Currently on R3D4, being my 3rd Landrover which happens to be a D4.
Previously I had R2D3, which should be obvious.

We've gone highly original for a Land Rover, being our first one it's called "Landy".

RobA

Ours has been given two names.

Diva as in Disco Diva from the aforementioned movies and the fact that it is just a little bit posh

Tardis. For the way it eats distance in comfort and silence making any long or short drive utterly enjoyable. Just as long as I keep the cruise control on

Thinking of calling mine "The Nanny"... why... because it won't even let you fart with the engine running. Too many "Nanny" warnings and lock-outs to pander for the limp-wristed European market.. e.g. can't change suspension height with door open.. radio turns off after 10 minutes... can't start without foot on brake... blah blah blah....

Good morning every one

I call my D4 "The Marraffa staff Car" or "The Disco" Because the colour
Corris Grey with a very heavy tint.;)
The wife calls the Disco "Yours" as she has a Suzuki Swift when we are going out to garage the conversation goes like this "Are we taking Yours or mine".

Have a great day

How did you get that on site?

No Wheel Nut indicators
No High Vis striping
No Flag

Us grown ups simply call it "Landy" - I know not many points for originality

My 10 year old son insisted that mine would be called "Fluffy".

Embarrassingly it has stuck. The one consolation is that it was named after the three headed guard dog in Harry Potter.

Had a D3 SE in Vienna Green and the kids called it Fred
Now have a D4 XXV in Grey and it is called Alphie (apparently)!

Tins
18th August 2017, 09:04 PM
Two Discos. The TDi was called 'Dave' for whatever reason my son came up with, it was once his car, and so it's still Dave: The D2 TD5 got it's name because I got the number plate Tins for that same son( in Iraq at the time), and he didn't want it, so now it's mine, and I put it on the D2 so my D2 is Tins. It's original plate was SNO ***, so it started life as Snow. GOT fans will know how fraught that might be.

I've never given cars names, they're just transport and money pits to me. The Deafener though was known by others (Cook and daughter) as Bugly (bloody ugly) Pugly (pretty ugly) or Fugly (work that one out yourself) occasionally by me.

Its white, and before we put bull bar, roof racks and rear wheel carrier, it was obvious that it looked like, well, a fridge laying on its back.

So, its 'the Fridge'.

I keep saying I'm taking 'The D-Fa' for a spin, but the wife and I laugh about personal plates '8675309', in which case I suppose the Deefa will be a she, called Jenny. (the eighties hit by Tommy Tutone). I think De-Fa will stay though as I want either 'D4CNOZ' or No. 1 at the moment, 'D4RWIN' plates.

My girl friend (now wife) said that all cars needed to have names, she had and still has a Defender 90 she calls Percy.
My list thus far is:

Paul - Rav4 (sold long ago)
Red - Disco 1 (he is blue btw)
Bing Bong - Disco 2 (always chimes when poput key in the ignition)
Barry - Rover 220 (my daily run about)

I also drove my dads Suzuki Escudo for about a year and I named that Crap heap, that thing wasn't built for speed or comfort!
It was slow, thirsty, uncomfortable, rattly, terrible road noise and the AC was broken.
Also had a Kawaski KLR 650 called Keith
and have a a Suzuki RF900 called Benny (based on the number plate).

Wifes family have named almost all of their cars, as follows:
Bubble - Toyota Yaris/echo (bubble shaped)
Rubble - a Red Toyota Yaris/Echo
Whippy - Disco 1 (apparently looks like an ice cream truck)
Larry - Disco 1 (previous owners name for it)
Buzz - RRC
Best - RRC (brother in laws best condition RRC as he had 3 or 4 at one stage)
The bone shaker - Series 3 lightweight
Colonel Mustard - Suffix A RRC (wifes name for it)

There are a few unnamed Landys also.
