View Full Version : I Am Unemployed

Not yet, but as of next Tuesday I will be.

For those that don't know,(many here do, a few have stayed here) I own a caravan park. We have sold the park and settlement is on Tuesday

I have not spent much time on this site in the last few months, due to being flat out moving as well as still running the business.

We have purchased a lovely house on four acres just on the edge of town, where there is plenty of room for any AULORIANS traveling with their camper trailers to pull up for a night or three. (bed also available)

All welcome, but PM first for a phone number to confirm we are home.

Unfortunately and having just turned 60, I am not yet able to retire, so will have to find work.

For those wondering where I live, the town of Tatura is 20 km west of Shepparton.
For those heading from Qld to Melb, Shepparton is en-route.

I am definitely looking forward to this next chapter of my life.

My BIL used to own the Caravan/park/Motel at Nathalia down your way, leased out a few years back when they licensed pokies in Vic., sold it a couple of years back, good luck, maybe you could start up a 4WD tour and camping business, Regards Frank.

I bet you find a job quickly Dave, and having only four months ago walked away from working for myself, being a wage earner isn't bad, it can be a good change just to escape the responsibility and stress.

Dave, having worked as a fitter/machinist/mechanic since I was 16 I decided, mostly due to health reasons but also after being an ambo for 3 years to change my career path and become a registered nurse.I'm not an inside person or academic so I found Uni daunting at first but now I really enjoy it,especially since I'm one of only three men their,so go out and get stuck into your next endevour, lifes too short to not give it your best. How's work going for you Rick?. Onya Dave !

Since a caravan park is a 24/7/365 job, I think you've possibly earned some "me" time to kick back with a well deserved VB, smell the roses, and ponder your next step.

Might be hard for those who were previously self employed, but working FOR someone else without all the stress and responsibility has a lot going for it :)

Good luck with whatever you push off to !!

It was hard taking orders from muppets (sorry Muppet ! :D) so the temp job in Sydney was an awakening,
The job here in Canberra is crazy busy and a few too many crazy things happening on jobs but lots of OT and the family that own and run it are good people so it makes the transition a lot easier Pat.

My Psych friend reckons I'll be back working for myself sooner rather than later though and I'm about to apply for a diploma course, just to keep me off the streets.

As Kev said, going home at the end of the day and not worrying about organising work, etc. and the biggy, chasing money is a huge plus, and the money magically appears in my Bank account each Monday, and it's consistent.

The downside is it's a **** load less than what I used to bill out/hour, but everything is a compromise.

Good on you mate.
Having been in the LPG industry for many years & having called on probably hundreds, I know what running a Caravan park involves.
Enjoy your "in between" time & take a breather.

Cheers, David

This is my last post at my current address. As soon as I hit the "submit reply" button, I am turning off the computer, unplugging it all from the wall and modem and then shifting it to my new address.

How long before you hear from me again is dependent on how many dramas I have getting it all to work at the new place.

Hope to be back sooner than later.

All the best for a happy future mate. After running a caravan park, most jobs will probably seem easier.

May the net gods be with you.

I am a net god atheist as I am sure there is no net god.:) After numerous phone calls and tearing my hair out:(, I have just now come back on line at 10 am.

I have to go back to the caravan park now to do some training for the new owners so will report on my new life later.

Finally getting settled into the new home and loving it.

Whats next? Unfortunately having one son just finish uni and the other a pilot,
has cost me heaps, so retirement is not yet an option.
Don't take the above as a whinge, if I had my time again I would change nothing, as my SWMBO and two sons mean the world to me.

So for me at my age, the only jobs available is becoming a truck driver, which I don't mind.

I might have to change my user name to V8 Dave:)

We will be having a much deserved break on the Murry river at Tocumwal for probably about six weeks, starting on the day after the Australia day weekend
We have in the past had two weeks there, having to pay someone to look after the caravan park, so will enjoy an extended stay.

Anyone here who thinks they might be traveling in the region and would like to catch up, send me a PM for my mobile details.

And Gav(bacicat), looking forward to it.

I would like to thank every one who has posted on this thread for your support/encouragement, it really boosts one spirits.

I already have. The invite extends to all AULROians. I wont make any money though, as it is a not for profit business.

Camping is free at my place.
