Hi all, I am looking to fit a fact this year for short trips with the kids. Rack needs to hold 5 swags and maybe a gear bag so full length a must.
Reccomendations from experience ? Needs to come off easily as cant stay on for day to day use.
I have the 3/4 aftermarket rails fitted.
Thanks.

For light loads Rhino Rack bars and a tray are good value particularly their flat trays. Versatile so can be transferred to other vehicles.

Yep another vote for a Rhino flat wire tray and aero bars. We have a long tray so use 3bars but remove the front one to reduce wind noise and our system was purchased for the same reason as yours. That is to be easily removable but strong enough. For short trips we use a wire basked mounted on the two rear bars and for longer tours with the mesh platform we mount; second spare wheel, space case, max-trax and 3xJC in a plastic tub that is ratchet strapped to the roof.
We started with the Rhino alloy platform but found it way to noisy regardless of how good the design is and also found in strong winds there is a bit of "lift" when the wind gets underneath it which was not a nice feeling

I like the low platform style and I think whatever it is, wore it platform once loaded it will trap air under the front nose.
Not sure about the cheap steel racks on line, they do look good value and I probably need to see one for confidence to purchase

From memory there were a number of complaints early on about some of the ones on eBay rusting quickly and putting rust marks on people's Disco's roofs.

The Frontrunner full length platform has a wind deflector under the rack at the front, both to reduce wind noise when travelling with the rack empty, and to reduce / eliminate wind trapped under the rack when loaded. Works well.
I've travelled many kilometres with the rack both fully loaded and empty - and never had any problem with wind trapped under the rack.
Personally, I wouldn't look further than the Frontrunner or the Rhino platforms. I prefer the Frontrunner for a number of reasons, but that's personal preference only.

I have Rhino heavy duty bars, narrow long basket and a narrow pod next to it. My plan was to remove them when not in use but other than not being able to fit into the local shopping centre car park (which is a good thing :D), I have no problems so haven't bothered to date.
