Hi everyone, meet my 90
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/01/872.jpg

I got it new back in september and am loving it so far.
Here are some pictures of a couple of its 1st expeditions.

So far the only accessories I have put on it are a Tradesman roofrack, Nugget stuff rear recovery point and an ARB awning. Soon I will be adding an APT winch bar (no winch on it for a while), Mulgo Ex Box, Frontrunner ladder, GME CB radio and soundproofing (on a road trip the other week the wife wasn't too happy with the road noise so I got some dynamat and am going to see what I can do to reduce it a bit. I should have them all soon so I will set aside a weekend to setting it all up.

Ill keep this thread up to date with all trips and modifications I do with her, Hope you enjoy

Add a bit of sound proofing, every Defender 90 TDCi I get in always seems noisier than the same thing in a 110 and add seat base extensions, it will transform your driving style...\

For cheap soundproofing buy some rubber backed carpet squares and cover the floors in them. Cheap, they do reduce sound, protrct the floors and if they get filthy they can easily be taken out and cleaned. I paid $2 each for mine. Also rcommend the seatbase extensions.

Cheers, I'll have to look into the seatbase extensions. Re soundproofing I have already bought some dynamat and am waiting for it to arrive, I am planning on slowly doing the whole car with it, I have taken inspiration from some of the other threads and the great jobs they have done, I'm yet to see if I can replicate it as well

You have chosen the right vehicle.

The Dynamat I ordered a couple of weeks ago arrived this week so I spent my morning putting it in the back of the defender.

Here is the back with the chairs and mat out and prepped for the dynamat
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/01/662.jpg

And here it is with the dynamat. I decided not to cover the entire panels as I don't think that is necessary for it to be effective, it just needs enough to sufficiently dampen it.

Tomorrow I am going to head out and get some marine carpet as well as a layer of insulation to lay under it. I'm still not sure what to use for insulation but preferably something cheap and not too thick, any ideas?

Carpet is in. I decided not to use any underlay and just put the marine carpet straight in. I had to trim down the mat a bit to fit it over the carpet.

Nice and tidy Chris, well done.

Are you going to do the roof dynamatting?

RoverChris

My next priority is to dynamat the front but I will do that when my exbox arrives as I will already have to remove seats and panels to fit that and that job should take up the rest of the dynamat I have. After that I'll need to get some more and the roof is the next priority as well as putting some decent insulation up there to try and deal with the heat.

You should put some sort of heat insulation on the underside of the exbox as I found it gets quite hot in there on long trips.I retro fitted some and it's a pain in the arse, best to do it before you fit it in your vehicle.

Thanks for the tip, when it arrives I will have a look and see what I can do

Have you noticed a lot coming through? Thought it would be reasonable seeing as though you have white paint. Shouldnt take too much hopefully

Nothing over the top, it's just being in townsville it's always hot so anything I can do to reduce it is worthwhile.

I got ya, lived there for 4 involuntary years and can be oppressively hot sometimes.

Very nice, what's that you have on the air vent?

That is a snow cowl, good for keeping some dust and water out of the intake aswell. I wants one soon

The "bar fridge" looks great in it's crisp white. It will look even better with a bit of dirt. Congrats and enjoy :)

Just put the ladder on the back of the defender.

I was a bit nervous about drilling the holes through the panel but luckily they turned out alright.

Heres the finished product

The first holes are the hardest mate.
After a few more, you won't think twice before putting the drill to the duco...

My Nugget Air Box kit arrived yesterday and I'm horrified by the fitting instructions:

7. Remove the original air box and duct. This is the trickiest part of the job and is best done by cutting the duct into smaller pieces with an air saw. (Land Rover have no procedure to remove this component)

I've not put a single drill hole in it yet and I've now got to attack it with an air saw :eek:

I used a knife. It's not incredibly difficult to cut, but it is one of those 'no turning back' jobs.
Just don't do as I did and get a hole in the hose due to mounting it wrong, and tearing a hole in it with the steering linkage :o

It's taken me a while to post this but a couple of weeks ago the shiny new bull bar I ordered from APT fabrications arrived and I fitted it to the car. I have took it off road the other week and was hoping to get bogged and test out the recovery points on it but it seems the defender can handle itself pretty well and got through it all without help :D

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/02/59.jpg

I also have had my ex box sitting around at home for a while now but have been putting off installing it as I intend to pull out everything in the front of the car to apply dynamat and install the radio as well as moving all the electronics into the ex box in the one go and the whole process seems very daunting. Hopefuly I work up the courage and time to do it soon.

Bullbar looks good.

I too was apprehensive about doing the ex box... but once you get into it, it's easy. If you can disconnect your TV / HI-FI / Surround sound system and put it back together in a different room without blowing something up, you won't struggle with an ex box ;)
