Put a battery grip on it. Once i put a battery grip on my 7100 it suddenly felt like a proper camera i never looked back.

In fact with in 5 mins of opening my D750 christmas pressie i was on DWI ordering a battery grip for that too [emoji16]

I'm sure you will love it and Lou is right Battery grip makes a big difference, especially with a big lens for balance.

I've had a D7K as a second digital body for about 4 years now, and it's fantastic. I don't buy into the DX vs FX argument. It's a big toss. I do have a D810, but I have that for the pixel density on the sensor, not the size of the sensor. I could have bought a d7200..... but have a Df for other quite logical reasons, which would not be obvious to people who are not familiar with nikon sensor heirarchy, 35mm film and older non-ai mount lenses.

A couple of things about the D7K though, which still kinda bug me.
I don't like it at ISO greater than 1600 - at 3200 it is noisy, 6400 is unusable. On a long exposure, even when using high iso NR, it produces crap. Skip the NR settings and shoot it without at a lower iso and the performance is way better than with the NR on... go figure...

Frame buffer slows shooting down if using continuous high after about 20 frames.
I shoot raw/jpeg and keep the settings at their highest quality. This kills the buffer, but that's fine. You have to accept some limitations.

Other than that, great body and very useful. buttons and setup are great and easy to customize.

I bought it when it had just arrived on the market, and if buying another body today, then I may have been persuaded to buy a D500, but I seriously doubt it. I'd probably have bought the 7200 and enjoyed it every bit as much as I still enjoy the D7K.

I found a couple of DX lenses which have excellent performance, notably the 10.5/2.8 fisheye, the 12-24mm DX and the 35mm 1.4 is even better than it's full frame 50mm/1.4 cousin.
the 85mm/1.4 AF-D I use as a portrait lens on the DX (105 equiv) and the 135mmF2DC as a pretty cool Tele.

I do have a 70-200/2.8 zoom, and the earlier 80-200 af-d version but honestly, I find that they are a waste. VR is OK, but I find that I'm working at the other end more than at the tele end. It's Ok for doing the crop-shot in camera, but I'm not really a fan...

Sorry, that turned into a lens diatribe.

Back to the 7K. It's a fantastic camera - every bit as useable as the 810, lighter, and more importantly a much cheaper option.

I do have a bad case of NAS/GAS and it's hard for me to pass up a good unit.

However, I'm at my limit on bodies (digital ones) and don't need or want for anything else digital, except maybe a D5... or a digital back for my RZ67.
