My new 90 is imminent and have a choice of winch to fit to the ARB deluxe bar. Was thinking Runva 11xp. Is that ok or would 9500 do the job? Bit limited in choice as the internal dimensions are a little cramped but there are some Runva variants that would work, also some others I imagine.
Open to suggestions

I know of two people who have Runva's fitted and have no issues with them. Either would do the job, the 11XP would do it a little easier though. I don't think there's too much difference in weight as most of the Runva's weigh in at around the 30kg mark.
Best bit of advice I can give is, whichever you purchase, strip it down and put some decent grease in. I think there was a thread or two about it in the recovery section, in regards to Aldi winches.

The guideline for winch rating is around 2 - 2.5 times the weight of the vehicle that you need to winch, or what you will be winching. This is to have extra capacity to pull uphills, through mud, etc.
9500lb is closse enough to 4.3 tonne, your 90 would be about 2 tonne.

I once had to winch a Nissan out of a river, can never be to big... you might not be recovering your vehicle...

Also worth considering that in some recovery situations (terrain & degree/extent etc. that you are bogged) you are effectively pulling considerably more than the 2 tonne. And that 2 tonne would be an unladen 90/110, more likely closer to 3 or 3.5 tonne just for the vehicle and contents.
I'd go for the higher capacity winch and therefore (hopefully) you won't be extending it to it's limits too much.

Interesting video, I was waiting for the tree to come down!!:D
You will probably need more winching force than that when bogged and it has mud all around it and the axles are dragging.
That said, I think either of the winches would be fine. The 11000lb would pull more but probably just not be as quick - so be a lot more convenient. I've always run a 9000lb on my Discovery and it has been good, so you'd probably be laughing with both that you're looking at.

This video is from the initial launch of the 90/110 in the early eighties. I remember it well....When this particular vehicle was sold the dealer through in a copy of the tape.

Some comments in this thread may be of use when considering the "...no such thing as too big" notion: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/170446-what-size-winch-arb-bar.html
I passed on the great deal due to the feedback I received in that thread.

Good point jc.
I guess it's kind of like a smaller example of situations like when people put massively powered engines into vehicles without upgrading other driveline parts etc resulting in frequent breakages.

Well hope 11xp is a happy medium and won't result in the consequences mentioned in that thread. Yuck!
