I'd link the Today Tonight report, but it contains a swear dodge.
Jeremy Cordeaux (http://www.fiveaa.com.au/fiveaa/shows/jeremy-cordeaux) says we are in danger of losing our sense of humour.
Jeremy Cordeaux said (amongst other things) "For God's sake, let us live in the real world and not the sensitive politically correct world that some of us are told is the norm."

I think we get what you mean Andy.

I wonder what our ancestors were eating before one of their pet sheep was accidently cooked in a bush fire and the smell of roast lamb was just too much to resist.

My friend Andrew only recently got promoted into the Group Marketing Manager role at Meat and Livestock and this advert is his first creation - I'm really proud of him - he's aimed high and he's got people talking...mostly about lamb!

If a few people are going to get upset and start crying about being victimised, creating further publicity, then so much the better, it's exactly what he was after. The fact that those people are vegans is hilarious......as if they think society respects them and that this ad is not a fair representation!

Makes me want a big, juicy, rare chop right now.

Kind of interesting read this thread. Makes me feel a bit of an outsider as my overall level of meat consumption has decreased by about 60 % over the last few years. Partly , at first to budgetary constraints , but later I found that a large serving of most meats left me feeling unwell. Not something that would have given me much to think about til lately.

And it can be difficult for a vegan to maintain a balanced diet or consume enough to get certain nutrients, eg B group vitamins and iron.
It isn't impossible but it's much harder to get enough or for the body to absorb enough from plants, grains, nuts, seeds and legumes.

I was vego with no dairy for a number of years and in the finish just needed to cut back on the grains big time.
I do much better with a higher protein diet.

I'm just a bloody cave man I guess.

I actually know some cool vegans, usually they are the ones that it's just part of life and made that choice many years back and won't feel the need to shove it down your throat. I can understand the rational behind it, one of my mates grew up raising cattle and changed vegan at age 12 after not agreeing with certain farming methods, a vegan kid on a cattle station quickly develops a thick skin. Most that I know disagree with large commercial practices and would be ok (in theory) eating something I shot in the wild. Usually it's only the recently converted who are the annoying, whining, evangelistic, look at me I'm so special attention whores.

When I first saw the fuss about the ad, I thought f:$& Australia is slowly being strangled by the PC parasite and half expected the ad to be pulled to avoid offending precious little vegans. However the overwhelming response seems to be... Toughen up princess.. Which gives me hope that the end of the PC dark ages are drawing near. Even the hipsters I know hate PCness in all forms so it can't be too far off now....

On the opposite side to that, I used to work for a guy who would do between raw and rare hamburgers! I thought it sounded terrible until I found out that he would get scotch fillet minced specifically for it... So I had one and is seriously the best burger patty ever, he would melt blue vein cheese over the top... I know its an overused term but they would literally melt in your mouth.

When he would invite people over he would ask them how they liked thier burger done and inevitably people would say well done, he would try anc convince them about 5 times then get really ****ed off and go quiet while he cooked/ seared our ones and once he took them off he would keep dropping phrases like "so you want it all dry and hard then?" "so its nearly at that nasty leathery stage now will that be enough?" "so cooked all the way through so no flavor left?".... was dam funny to watch as he would be visually distressed.

The lack of meat protein makes their skin much thinner. I heard a comedian on the radio being asked if we are losing our sense of humour, he related a story about doing a stand up gig and mentioned peanuts in one of his gags. After the show a woman came up to him to complain as her cousin died from a peanut allergy.

Sad but if we all take this attitude the word joke will soon be banned

A good way to get food poisoning. Raw meat has E coli on the outside.
Eating a steak rare is ok as the heat kills the bacteria.

However, when meat is minced the E coli is now also in the middle and if not cooked thoroughly, the bacteria can still be present which can result in food poisoning.

I used to be friends with a Vegan couple in London, but they fell out with us when we bought a cattle property, I cant think what could have upset them :D
Anyway back in London I once asked them why they were vegan. I said I understood why they chose not to eat meat, killing animals blah blah blah, and I also got why no milk or cheese as being a male cow in a dairy herd is not good and taking the milk from the calf blah blah :D
I just did not get the eggs problem, why did they choose not to eat eggs?
I said what if the eggs where real free range off a farm where the hens run truly free?
He said he could not eat eggs as every egg was a potential life . I said this was not true if the farm did not have a Rooster, in this case the eggs was a wast product rather like a woman's period. He changed the subject...
It seemed like they needed a drum to bang about something not a genuine life choice. I wonder how many would be meat eaters if the rest of the population where Vegan just to be alternative, just a thought..

I understand being a vegan is a life choice but why is it that when introduced to someone who is one they can't wait to tell you they are vegans.

Next time I am introduced to someone new I am going to say "By the way, I love a good steak and own angus cattle that I have slaughtered and cut up into the cuts of my choice to BBQ nice and rare"

I had to laugh when I looked up the Animals Australia Facebook page - seeing as they were being so vocal about the Aussie Day Lamb, and saw all the posts condemning the eating of lamb and showing little wooly ones frollicking in the paddock. Not enough meat on them at that age:wasntme:

Like their proselytizing?
If I was going to eat a proselyte, it would have to be a Mormon. They'd be nice and salty I reckon.

goto the Surfers Paradise Mall on fri/sat nights.....they're not Mormon but you'd have a smorgasboard.....bring a few of your canaballistic friends.....I'll organise the media.

I'll even supply unlimited condiments of your choice and your choice of wine to wash them down.

sweeping generalisation......being vegan does not make you pale , nor anaemic.

Yes they are not all like that but have a huge predisposition to it unless they are very disciplined and organised with diet (some are, some are not). Not just a loading up on lentils, they need quite a range of varied proteins as they don't have access to many "complete" proteins and will need up to 8 different legumes to make it up. And that is just from a simplistic protein perspective.

I only feel sorry for the fact that they can't enjoy what I had for dinner tonight....some nice little thick cut eye fillet medallions 4mins/side with a serve of mashed potatoes.

these were aged wagyu "diamond" grade steaks.....just yummo.

they might have liked the spuds.....

Vegans can turn Legumes into Methane and Sulphur Dioxide and wreak havoc in elevators. Beat that.
