Turbo hose failures

having purchased a puma 130 Ranger,, I was wondering if the turbo hose that keeps failing on the Defender is the same item on the Ranger.

I'm wondering if it might be prudent to carry a spare on my outback wanderings.

Having got in and looked under and over it will be a positive bastard to change at the best of times.

Do any mechanics here know?

Maybe I will talk to British Offroad and see if they know .

From what I've read on this site, they don't really fail, they just fall off. Put some decent hose clamps in the glove box and you'll probably never have a problem....

Its not really that hard to change, except if the motors at running temp.
Mines been replaced twice now, and the second time, one end blew off whilst I was over taking another car on the freeway.
I had to wait a little bit to be able to get my hands in there to get it back on, but although hot, it wasn't hard.

I've kept my old one so I can take it to an exhaust place and get a steel one made. Then its just a case of getting some short joiners, and decent hose clamps.
A new hose is about $100, so either get a new one, put it on and keep the other as a spare, or, your other options are to make a bracket that will make sure it doesn't rub (which is the problem at hand), or get a steel one made.

I prepared mine with a tire patch and some good strong tape. It got me a further 4,000 Ks. Some good self emulsifying tape in the kit should get you out of trouble. When you talk to British Off Road, ask about Silicone replacements.

Im guessing you mean Emalgamating tape, its good stuff a must have in any bush mechanics kit.

I took all my hoses off and replaced with silicone, I dont really get what all the fuss is about over these hose failures, if you put them on the stubs in the right position and they are not rubbing, they will stay there even with plain old hose clips.
Even with the rubber hoses if they are secured properly they wont come off, its not like the boost is extreme pressure, they just need to be installed with a bit of care and skill, ie not twisted and alligned correctly

I've had three turbo hose failures in my MY12 110 Puma (purchased Feb 2013). I was going to swap them all for silicon after the second failure but was informed that this would void the warranty. The 110 is out of warranty in two days time so I'll be doing the exchange to silicon before going anywhere fun again.

On a side note and sorry for my ignorance, I've never heard of a 130 Ranger before. Is it a limited edition of the 130?

He could be talking about the Ford Ranger, they have the same wheelbase as the Defender 130 has, which is actually 127 inch.
They also have basically the same 2.2 litre Puma or Duratorq engine and also a bigger capacity Puma or Duratorq engine of 3.2 litre capacity.
