Went to Bunnings to see if could a 36mm socket any cheaper than the one available at Masters , looking in the tools section was not fruitful so asked the attendant where the 36mm socket was and was told 32mm is the biggest available at Bunnings and would have to go to a specialist tool shop to get a 36mm one .
Ha Ha could not wait to tell him , are well I will have to go to Masters then as they had em in stock , he was not amused . Made my day though RIP Masters .

That's the sad bit about the B place, they only seem to carry relatively fast moving items, but have put the local competition, who always carried smaller quantities but a larger range, out of business. Same as the places like S Cheep, decent auto parts stores are few and far between these days.

I've found total tools , to be pretty good with 'different ' stuff , sockets ,breaker bars and tool sets etc .
Rep or sometimes have the bigger sizes in their branded stuff for very reasonable prices .

Always worth a look in their cupboard !

I go to repco if i need a socket/spanner. They have a pretty good range, even if you have to order it in. Last time i checked the repco branded tools had a lifetime warranty too.

Cheers

Go to a tool store for tools... Bunnings tool section is laughable, Masters as a chain is even more laughable.

The biggy is that as a full time worker, you find you need these things on a weekend and the tool stores are closed and when I wanted something I didn't already have, Repco didn't have it either. The other day it was a single 7/16" UNF intermediate or plug tap, I ended up having to buy a complete tap and die set with only a taper tap.

Well I have a good Bunnings story.
My SIL has a Bosch mobile dishwasher for which he has lost the adaptor that goes between bubbler tap and input nut and tail.
I went appliance warehouse and Reece with no result. Not made any more.

Went to Bunnings and nosed around for awhile , opened a packet at desk, and was able to come up with a solution. A combination of two kits.
The problem was that the old German bubbler had a slightly bigger male thread than the majority these days.

Blackwoods was the go to place on weekends for more industrial type hardware as in the above mentioned tap. They are owned by the same mob that owns Bunnings. So not open Saturday any more. There attitude is you need a tap go to Bunnings and by the whole set. No enough industry open on weekends to justify Blackwoods being open. Smaller industrial suppliers are for once doing well picking up the weekend trade. Pity that the Australian public did not support Masters, we certainly need the competition and the added verity. I have gone to Masters when needing stuff, not all ways brought from there but at least gave them a look.

repco is awesomeI used to think so too but I try to avoid the place now.

A year or so ago, I tried to buy wheel cylinder rubbers for my older car. No, you can't buy those anymore. So I asked how much for a wheel cylinder only to be told you can't buy those either.

Went across the road to my now regular store (Autopro) & they had the rubbers I needed in stock.

A local 'mechanic' here told me how good the local store was now that there was a girl who knew her stuff on the Trade counter so I gave them another try.
I asked if a cooling system pressure kit had an adaptor for a 1998 Land Rover. She said that's a Toyota, isn't it?

Masters carry (or did when I last looked..) a certain prestigious German brand of spanners/sockets etc. Prices were not um, 'out of this world' when compared to the best 'internet & carriage' price at that time.
