Well at 150K typical of Defender, squeaks have appeared along with the leaks.

I have loosened, tightened, and rubber greased the rear door. But no, it still squeaks. Any ideas how to fix the pile.

In the list of mods to this Defender 110, under 'Interior' he lists upgraded door seals.

http://alloffroad.com.au/defender-expedition-vehicles.html

Might be worth asking him what that means.

My door seal squeaks seem to come and go (possible temp dependant?) - none for weeks now, but they were driving me crazy a few months ago.

No quick and easy fixes in my experience - probably time for replacement seals.

MY drivers door rubber squeaked like mad, it was driving me nuts!! I tried a few things including lubricating, it worked a for a few days and came back, in the end I gave them a good clean with meths and it seemed to work, but came back about a month later, now i just clean with meths every month or so when it starts squeaking. I thought maybe it got some wax on it or something when it went for its annual clean at the drive through coffee and car wash place.

Ditto with squeaky seals. Not a solution merely a mask of the problem, I have a spray bottle with a mix of washing detergent and water and give the rubbers a spray when they squeak. Detergent doesn't attract dust and grit like an oil, wax, grease product seems to do, to a lesser extent anyway.

As a bonus I wash the rubbers when it rains (jokes).

Try that silicone spray that's available at el cheapo shops.
I use it for eliminating dry squeaks that I don't want oil or grease on!

Cheers, Mick.

Check the white plastic on the striker pictured below is in good nick. Mine were worn and the squeaking drove me nuts on a very long drive home.

GQ patrols used to squeak like mad .
I found the fix to be lots of Armor All applied regularly.

I retention my door striker if it starts to squeak,,, tight.
I replaced the front doors strikers with the units that stop your pants pockets being ripped, can't remember what they're called. I've also found that even doing them up as tight as you can, they still come loose, and I suspect it's the plastic spacer between the body and strike plate.

Try silicone spray or if you can find it rubber softening spray. it moisturizes and softens dried out old rubber

I've found they only start squeaking in summer, after a good clean with armour all interior cleaner the problem goes away, till the next summer anyway.

As far as rubber protectant / lubricant goes, I've heard great things of a product called Gummi Pfledge. I'm sure it would go some of the way towards stopping squeaking.

Seems like the problem would be due to not only the rubber drying out, but also poor fit-up of the doors and sills. Luckily I haven't got the squeaks in mine yet!

I used gummi pflege and it took a week and a bit for the squeaks to come back. I had the same result with silicon spray. Now, I'm going to try door strikers without the plastic bit where the lock catches. This made a huge difference for the rattles in my Patrol. Can't wait for them to arrive at my doorstep.

When I detail customers Defenders, once the door seals have be cleaned, use as already mentioned, silicone spray BUT....

Ensure the silicone spray you use says it is safe to use on plastic and rubber, a LOT of them will actually say not for prolonged use on rubber or plastic.

I have always used the Treblex brand.
On a Defender, D2, D1 its great for using it on the dash too!

Most likely the door latch retainer has come loose or moved from the wieght of the door hanging off it,undo the two bolts and move it back into position and tighten. Pat

I suspected that the plastic sleeve on the striker assembly might contribute to any door movement and squeaks (the doors on the GQ Patrols start rattling badly when the plastic sleeve on the striker wears). Therefore, I decided to replace the strikers with the X-Eng door strikers from foundry4x4 on ebay as the are fully metal.
After driving around with them fitted, I have to say that it made a difference.

I thought that this could be of interest for other people: I've run the X-Eng strikers on the front doors for a month now on all sorts of roads and offroad and the squeaks have completely disappeared.

Try dry PTFE spray. PTFE is the stuff teflon is made from. The can I've got claims it has the lowest friction co-efficient of any known solid. (Anglomoil brand)
