I'm trying to fit my county handbrake assembly on my Series 3 w/LT230 and what looks to me like a td5 hand brake cable. The handbrake cable doesn't screw into the inner bracket that fits to the inside of the seatbox. (cable thread is smaller than the nut on the plate) Plus the cable looks rather short. I do have a county hand brake cable, but without removing the short (td5?) cable I am not sure it will fit, it looks different again on the brake end.

Now for the question.

Did Land Rover change the handbrake lever/cable setup between county (Isuzu engine) and an LT230????

Any info would be great, photos would be AWESOME!

There is a difference Nick, the County handbrake works on a rod that pulls from the top right of the backing plate whereas the later TD5 LT230's had a cable that worked directly onto the shoes and entered at the bottom passenger side of the backing plate.

Thanks Brian. So that means that I can't swap in that county cable. The lever end has a different thread on it too, so will have to try to sort something there...

Does your backing plate have the cable entry at the bottom.

The drum backing plate has the entry at the bottom or there abouts.

The county one won't fit it then. I'll be in town tomorrow will have a look if you're home and collect the oil.

I'll be home. Might hold the oil ransom till you fix my handbrake problem :p
