Flat battery

I not that long ago had a dual battery system installed in my D2. The two D34 Optimas were put up the front where the jack would normally go. I was running my 60ltr ARB fridge and using one of the new plugs in the back. The vehicle was parked for two days and not started at all in that time. Went to start up and I had a flat battery. Turns out my cranking battery was flat and my deep cycle was fine. Haven't had it looked at yet but it sounds like it's back to front. Anyone else experienced anything simular.

Do you have a battery Isolater, (Drivesafe on this Forum sells kit), to which battery is the "new plug in the back" connected to?
Do you have the fridge connected to the Aux. deep Cycle battery and was the fridge running that whole time and was it in the sun and hot inside the car? Regards Frank.

G'day Tank, thanks for the interest mate. In answer, yes it has an isolator and yes it was running the whole time. And I just assumed the plugs in the back are connected to the aux, otherwise it would defeat the purpose. I never had a problem like this in my last D2.

Certainly sounds like it was running off the starter, not the second battery.

Nippa, I hope you have tried a recondition charge of your starter battery, cos if its at all not new, it may not recharge properly, or worse still not hold a charge. Similar thing happened to me last week with a 2 year old HD Caterpillar battery (would charge but not hold), and ended up having to buy a new one ouch!

The isolator should protect the starter battery from just this scenario, I have a dual battery setup, I have a HD cable Pos & neg going to an Anderson plug at the rear to hook up to my C-Tek DC to DC charger which charges the camper trailer batteries.
On the other side of the engine bay I have my secondary battery which is isolated from the starter battery with a red-Arc Isolator. Nearby I have a terminal/fuse block with power leads for in car/under dash goodies like radio, CB, EGT gauge and a few cigarette lighter outlets. From this Terminal/Fuse block I run a HD cable for my Engel fridge.
So I have seperate wiring system for the C/T and Fridge, I run my Winch off my Starter battery as well, seems to work well, you may need to trace the power feed for the fridge and make sure it is powered by the Aux. battery, good luck, Regards Frank.

Hi Nippa and if you can, post up some pics of your setup in the engine bay, particularly pics of the wiring.

We can then get a better idea of what might be the cause of your problem.
