Chasing a chook yesterday I dropped my phone, breaking the screen. I can no longer do anything with the phone and all my contacts are on the phone, not the SIM.
To all you good people with whom I have exchanged phone numbers, could you please text, email or PM me your number and name.
Insurance will cover the damage but a factory reset is part of the repair process.
On a brighter note, the chook will be on somebody's dinner plate next week.

I assume it's not a smart phone? One of the great things about Android (and I would think Apple) is they synchronise all your contacts. Get a new phone, put in your credentials, and within minutes all your contacts are back!
Mind you, one could debate about the whole privacy issue...

Top of the range Sony Z5, but you need to unlock the phone before you can download the contents.

There may be a chance you're mistaken in thinking the contacts are only on the phone.
Log in to Gmail, and go to contacts - anything there will be automatically downloaded to any new Android phone.
Mind you, I recently sorted out my mum's android phone - half her contacts were on the sim, and half on the device, and bugger all on her gmail account :(

It didn't escape from the trailer, they're more secure than a black mariah, she snuck out of the shed.
You're dragging the chain with your details Andy, I'll be over there in a couple of months. Might have to drop in unannounced if I can't ring you. ;)

It's winging its way to Sydney for a new screen, I have requested that a factory reset is NOT done but I lack faith that my instructions will be heeded. In the meantime I have bought a $50 special, smart phone.

When you create a Gmail account, you get a gmail account. On most Android phones, it automatically synchronises your contacts and mail.
Go to gmail.com, and try putting in your user name and password that you used on your phone.

I assume its a good thing..
I had a phone that wouldn't sync at all not matter what.
I was told I had to change the name..
So I changed it to Titanic and now it syncs every time. :D
You don't need to thank me :-)
