View Full Version : Who will get the last defender in Australia?

Platell
31st January 2016, 02:08 PM
I ordered my 110 in August last year. They tell me it was built in January and I will not see it until mid March, give or take "two" weeks.
Certainly a long Waite.

It will be my first and probably last Land Rover. I am planning to keep it long term and put 500,000 Kms on it.

Hello Platell,

Me too (except mine is a 90)......... Ordered September, was built early January, and to arrive in March. Very much looking forward to it!

Fascinating.

The last day to order in the UK was June 26th!!! I am amazed you have been able to get a September order built!

Lets hope for you it was the last but one built!!! :>)

They aren't new orders, they're unallocated dealer orders from June last year. The last date for modifying those builds was October, so anyone who bought one of the dealer orders before that date (i.e. me) could still modify the configuration to their own preferences. After that, you get whatever the dealer ordered.

My 110 was built in December and I'll be picking it up on Friday. I was told mid-march for delivery, so it's well ahead of schedule! I cannot wait.

My son ordered a 90 about 2 weeks ago. I presume it was allocated to the dealer and was told it was the second last available to WA. He didn't have a choice of colours and it is black and white

Mid-February collection for me - from Melbourne City Land Rover.

The sales person I dealt with has since left the dealer so I'm not sure how the experience will go, since the guy I'm dealing with now probably didn't earn a commission on the sale.

Nevertheless -my heart rate goes up when I think about collecting it.

This is the scheme I deliberately ordered. If he's not keen on it, I think it will grow on him. Bold, highly visible, and there's lots of black accessories out there that compliment it.

Here's mine sitting at the dealer waiting for me. Once bullbar and towbar are fitted it will be in my possession!

There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around
That the colt from old Regret had got away...

Spoke to bloke last night who said he had a friend who was going to buy a Defender as he knew they were not being made anymore. I showed him my MY15 90 and he took pics for his friend. Was very impressed and left saying maybe he would buy one too.

Does that make it a Rush?

Aaahhh, still a few excited people waiting to take possession, and why shouldn't you be excited,.....we were,....and ya'll be even more excited when you start the journey of ownership.
But "stampede"?.....can's say I've noticed that, at all, not here in Aussie anyway,.....up until now there's been plenty of Defenders for sale, I mean all through last year people have known they're finishing, but there were always plenty about,....until the last few months when 110s became scarce, and even today there's still new 90s showing on Carsales.
Simply a sign of where Defender's at,....no real demand for it,....except for people that love 'em,...like us.
BUT, We're glad, "We've Got One"!

Yes it's an ironic stampede Pickles 😊 There's no accounting for why only a minority have such good taste in the simple wabi sabi nature of a design classic.

It's why we wave.

I also ordered mine August 2015 and chose the last build date the WA dealer had on the books at the time. I chose 90 in Keswick Green with white roof. I'm told delivery in March so looking forward to it. Sounds like Feb/Mar will be the last of them. I even asked Land Rover UK to get some photos when it came off the production line which they said have done!, although still waiting for them.

I only purchased my first defender 2 years ago after having a few Discovery II's and i'm hooked. One of the only cars I've owned that I get excited about driving everyday! It just never gets boring.

Mine is in Keswick green with a green roof.

Plan to fit recovery points, cargo barrier, draw system in back, long range fuel tank and fire extinguisher. I am sure I will add other things later.

Hi Jason,

Would your VIN number end in "246"? If so then it is in good company.:D The ship Morning Calypso is currently docked in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Oh the wait...

The new Jaguar Land Rover dealer at Springwood had two 90s on the showroom floor on Thursday and a third arrived on a transporter while I was there. A salesman said they were attracting a lot of interest. They certainly looked very smick.

The final 10 cars to come off the line were a,

110 station wagon,
110 pick up,
90 station wagon,
110 SW,
90 SW,
110 double-cab pick up,
90 station wagon (Heritage spec),
110 SW,
90 SW,
90 pick up.

The very last model to be built was in fact the 2,016,933rd Defender which I guess will wind up in the museum.

Ordered mine last year, June I think. went in on a Saturday to "enquire" about last date to order and was told it the Friday just gone ...but because we've bought one from them before they'll see what they could do. So there and then I was faced with the final buy one or keep my Amarok. not a tough choice really. Love driving my wife's D90 and I also have a 1987 Perentie so a New Black 110 would compliment the others ;)

Dealer confined the following week I got a production slot.

Boat (Tulane) arrived in Fremantle where (for some reason) my car was being off loaded. But the boat carried onto Melbourne ????? Told 1 week for customs/compliance, 2-3 weeks to get across to Adelaide and then to ARB for some extras :D So hopefully the end of this month it should be on my drive (or in the hills).

Ironically I was in Fremantle this week with work and stayed in North Freeo. As you go over the bridge there was a whole load of new cars but couldn't see a big black defender amongst them, but i felt closer to it.

Soon....so very soon........

Hey sorry didn't see your message, mine chassis number ends in 421, went to collect it yesterday but they need to fix a few things and didn't want to take it until they were done correctly. Just hope the quality control at the factory didn't go completely out the window at the end😬. Should get it next Friday! Can't wait to drive it!

As far as I can tell there are still two new 90s available in WA sitting at the dealers. It also appears that my 110 will be the last new 110 to leave a WA showroom. Hopefully it will be ready sometime next week.

Yesterday I saw a nice green 90 waiting to be collected with the plates "LR 48 WA"

Cheers

It's 90 Keswick green, white roof, privacy glass, part leather standard seats so pretty standard spec. Issues was slight cut in the dash so NEW Dash to be installed! Nightmare so hope they do a proper job and nothing else gets damaged in the process as its a big job, not exactly what I had hoped for a new car. The other was just a trim alignment issue that should be easy fix. Southern have been very good so far about it. Will see when I collect it.

At last picked up my Defender 90 yesterday, very pleased and surprised how different it drives to my 2011 90. Different engine I guess and a lot tighter being new. All the issues that I had when I originally went to collect were sorted perfectly. Although one other item I noticed when collecting was it should have had a leather trimmed steering wheel, so they had to switch it from the last 90 they have in the showroom! Just had to get my tools out and straighten it up when I got home🙃.
