Twice in the last year the RRS 2.7 2006 has drained its battery overnight.

Once after I used the Faultmate, although I did put it to sleep before disconnecting. Day before yesterday I put a new case on the key fob. In the process I repeatedly pressed buttons and because the tail gate was open it sounded the horn a few times.
Next morning battery was down so much only got random warnings on dash display and wouldnt start. Trickle charged the battery overnight and all appears OK today.
Seems like the ECUs are not shutting down properly after I have a play.
How can I prevent this from reoccurring?

Two things you could try; do a reset (disconnect the battery leads, inc aux. battery if fitted, and touch the leads together NOT THE BATTERY TERMINALS then reconnect all) and/or lock the vehicle, wait an hour unlock then lock again. Keep in mind that if the battery does die you won't be able to get in easily so you can bypass the bonnet switch (there are plenty of threads on here on how to do that) and leave the bonnet ajar so you can recharge or replace the battery. The logic behind the lock / unlock is the time for the ECU's to go to sleep is down to a couple of minutes when locked instead of half an hour or more when unlocked.

Use the intelligent CTEK charger which test the electrics including the alternator, reset
may only be a short-term fix. Look them up on the web and learn.
