Even if it really is the first diesel, absent the original engine, I seriously doubt it is worth anything like the price being asked.
Perhaps something like that fully restored and with the original engine, but even then, I doubt it would be worth half that.
Maybe, as is, a tenth of what is being asked. After all, it is a historic landmark.
(Actually not the first Landrover diesel - just the first factory one. After market diesel conversions were offered from very early on, and the demand for these convinced Rover to design the diesel.)

That's a joke right? Even if I did have that sort of cash, I'd never spend it on some clapped out S1.
I think I agree with you John, half the price (or less) - fully restored better than factory condition.
It is interesting that people are out there trying to get this sort of money for LR's though.....

Tell him he's joking, that's 200,000 quid, in real dosh that converts to about $400,000.

If it's genuine, with the right markings, he might get something like that. After all, the two millionth Land Rover recently sold for 400,000 pounds at a charity auction. Imagine what the very last Land Rover Defender is worth, now gone to the Dunsfold Museum.
There's a big market in special Land Rovers and prices have been rising rapidly.

I thought I'd paid way too much for my '95 Classic softdash, but this one puts things in perspective ... :o

I think this has appeared in another thread - and I seriously doubt it is worth anything like the figure asked, especially without the engine!
