I've been a long time home oil and oil filter change advocate with my Discos but always dread the thought of removing the guards etc under the car to complete the change (have an ARB bar and sump guard fitted)....buy the time I phaff around the process takes an hour or so with lots of crawling under the front of the car and cleaning up spilt oil.

Vacuum pumps have been discussed here and I've seen the manual pump and thought of getting one. I have a 2010 D4 3.0 SDV6 and always looked at the "factory drain " oil fitting front left of the engine.

Was trawling ebay and found one of the electric oil vacuum pumps for $50 delivered...thought I'd give it a go.

Sunday morning, bought the Penrite oil and filter from Autopro...plugged the pump into the tube...had to find a bit of old fuel line to fit with a clamp...turned the pump on and yeehaa...oil draining into the old oil bottle. In total I retrieved 5.7 ltrs...it was a bit down to start. I could hear slurping sounds from the oil fill cap once it go to the end. For completeness I lifted side of the vehicle with a trolley jack to see if I could lean the engine to scrape any more oil...got no extra.

The whole operation, drain, replace, sway filter took 20 minutes and no mess, no crawling under the car....oil change nirvana...why didn't I have one of these years ago!!...(it's the little things in life that make a grown man happy:-) )

Great bit of kit. I use it to change auto fluid when I don't want to drop the pan on some cars; change over PAS fluid easily. Also drained some excess oil from someone's sump once. Takes a few minutes but less mess.
