Ok, so my brake booster went on a recent 4wd trip. There was a hissing noise in the cab coming from the brake pedal. Luckily one of the guys on the trip is a mechanic and told me that the booster was probably shot.
Anyway just got an email from my mechanic saying that looks like the army have installed an aftermarket booster(read not Land Rover), which shouldn't be an issue but they have welded in the plates and modified the pedal. So it will be hard to return to standard.
He has a booster on order which he thinks will fit. Anyone else had this issue.
I have been going to this mechanic for almost 10 years, and he is as honest as the day is long.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul, He might be a good mechanic but he doesn't know much about Perentie land rovers. Because of the required "Australian content" when they were manufactured some things like brake booster and M/C were sourced locally hence PBR equipped. The booster is a VH514 PBR. Easy to get hold of thru the brake mobs.

The reason is that the civilian Isuzu 110 and Isuzu 110 counties (Au only model) built at the same time use the standard Land Rover parts the same as the UK and South Africa built 110.

Thanks for the responses, have passed this onto him. Yes he fully admits he knows nothing about Perenties, since they are relatively scarce here. But thanks to everyone here the learning curve shouldn't be too hard to master!

Just for your own interest the master cylinders for the brakes are off XC and XB Falcon utes (sedan are different) but the plastic reservoir is different (although you can swap the Falcon one with the Perentie one.)

Try Repco or a brake mob. Not sure if they still make new ones but you should be able to get yours recoed. I do have a used one here that needs recoing that you can have if you want it.

Terry @ Hydroboost should be able to help. Not listed on his website but worth a call.

In the end I had mine sent off to be re-conditioned.

I need to find a replacement booster for a Perentie 4x4. 1988 Personnel Carrier Hard Top Wagon
From what I am reading here it's a VH514 PBR, but I can't find any info on that part number. Being all the way off in Canada makes it a little more difficult to source. If anyone could post some specific links or contact information it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Mine went a few weeks ago,
I had it re-built at SA Power brakes.....cost me $380 and only a days turn around.
A diaphragm had split.
