Gday All ,
The wife was just backing out the driveway and the front drivers side wheel had a ticking noise coming from it . Last time I heard that noise on a car it was a CV joint .
Any way to check them.
Cheers Ean

Usually when turning wheel.
Maybe a stone in backing plate or stick

If it is the CV,, and its ticking, it'll be a broken cage.
You'll know it when it actually breaks;)

If you are keeping the vehicle Ean,I would be replacing them as a travel insurance.
The noise you describe certainly sounds like a failing CV joint. It may be up for many more ks,right up until you are off travelling and enjoying yourself;);););)

I will keep my eye on it Andy, it could have been a stone , not sure, I have never read of anyone having CV issues.
No plans on getting rid of the car so will do them if needed.

No expert but I have heard of a few but not as a failure trend. Mainly after lots of rough and loaded klms......(read - years)
A Forum Member recently reported an unexpected one but I think that was considered extreme conditions ..... Bogged in deep sand, full lock, in reverse and a bit of welly. Apparently that is the Kryptonite of all CVs regardless of vehicle.

Someone else on here shared this link a couple of weeks back. Might be of some use for those looking at upgrading CV's at some stage.

My car has developed a ticking/clicking noise from the passenger front too. It can only be heard if the passenger window is down and is linked to wheel speed. It is not affected by braking. It sounds like a screw or nail but I cannot for the life of me find one in the tyre. I've had my mechanic have a good look at it and he is a bit miffed too (he doesn't think it's the bearings). The noise is there irrespective of wheel direction but it does get quieter when turning right (although that's probably affected only the direction of the noise). I've read a few things here about CVs but that seems to be only relevant on wheels turning into corners etc and not going straight ahead. Could it be the rim (it's an original LR 18inch)? I'm going to try a different wheel but beyond that I'm a bit stumped..
