Hi folks

Ive got some questions for you...

Firstly my 300tdi is overheating after only a very short amount of time driving, heater goes cold and header tank fills up with pressurised coolant.
Has only started doing this since I was playing with the boost on the VNT which is still only running at 18psi though so should be no issues there. Maybe when I was giving it a test run I could have given it a bit much but surely not, I was in no way going extreme on it. Egts were normal and water temp was fine. Maybe a coincidence!
Have checked all hoses, flushed everything, pump is near new and working fine and a new thermostat and new radiator none of which has changed a thing.. Doesn't seem to do it just idling, had it idling for about half an hour the other day after checking a few things and it built up a little pressure but not excessive and the heater didn't go cold, started driving however and things changed pretty quickly! Also P-gasket is not leaking and heater matrix is new...
No oil in coolant and vice versa and the engine seems to run like normal.
I just can't figure it, the head is a new AMC brand one from Turners Engineering and has only done about 15k since it was fitted.... Thoughts? Could get a sniff test kit I guess but Id rather save the dollars and just buy the gasket and spend half a day fixing!

Second Question is my 04 Td5 is running weirdly, for an example say if your rolling the last bit up to an intersection out of gear it sort of runs a little bit "off" for a bit and then settles again.. Seems to do this at all times when returning to idle after moving, once you stop it rights itself. There is oil in the loom down to the ecu but have replaced the injector harness and cleaned the plugs as best I could but no change.... Is it just a matter of a sensor somewhere?

On another positive note I removed the CAT and centre muffler a few weeks ago and far it went so much better straight up I couldn't believe it, am super chuffed!!

Cheers:)

Guys, does this sound like the drop in revs due to the clutch switch?

If so, I would thoroughly recommend disconnecting it - it made my '02 TD5 Defender much more driveable.

Thanks for the tip, I disconnected it and I definitely think it's a nicer vehicle to drive now, 1st to 2nd shift in particular is a lot less clunky which is great!
Unfortunately though it hasn't solved the issue!
So it will start running weirdly as soon as it starts rolling and it doesn't matter if the clutch is in or out. If your slowing down with the gears you won't notice it but if your just rolling along out of gear with the engine on idle it will run strangely..

Regarding the Tdi, does it sound head gaskety or more like an air leak in the system? Or something else?!.. Anyone? Before I take drastic measures:angel:

tdi, it could be the vactuator valve combined with a sticking thermostat but the real test is to get it filled right and warm it up and then see if blows bubbles

Vactuator valve? Do you mean the three way thingy from thermo housing/rad to ex tank?

Have tried two thermostats, both are Waxstat and one is brand new, doesn't mean both aren't faulty I know but unlikely imo.

So with the bubbles do I look for those in the ex tank only once its at running temp?

And do you have any hints on the filling/bleeding of the system? I do it as per the manual which Ive had no issues with in the past but are there any little tricks?
