Which winch ?

Have a 2015 Defender 110 with an ARB bulbar and wanting to install a winch. Have only looked at two options thus far, a Runva and a Warn, big difference in price between the two. Can anyone suggest make, model, pros and cons. Thanks

I have a Runva 15,000lb winch (Hyd.) works fine, no problems and it is well built, I have no confidence in Warn, a client hires cars trailers and every Warn has packed it in under 2 years, he wouldn't touch another, Google up Runva and Warn, should be reams of info out there, Regards Frank.

You pay your money and you choose your quality.

For me, it has always been Warn. Its a long lasting and well wearing part. The remote controller however is definitely not dog proof though.

If you don't think you will use it much, then just get the cheapie.

I bought a Runva XP11 a few years ago. Although it has had little use its always worked faultlessly when needed

I've had very good service from my Avenger Mako, including good after-sale support when the solenoid partially failed.

I run a Warn, is close to 15years old, been serviced a couple of times but always reliable.
When I bought it their were not too many choices - so Warn it was.
Warn also makes a winch that has an in built air compressor - Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

People say if not going to use a winch very often buy a cheapie - but will it work after sitting around for months on end not being used?
Cheapie winches also tend to draw more current than the better quality ones.

I originally was going to purchase an OX hydraulic winch but it would not fit in-between the chassi rails of the vehicle I had at the time - Warn was the next best option for me, and then it has been carried over to the Disco.
As far as I am aware Superwinch are not available in Australia. Never heard of Red Winch or Novawin
Mean Mother is another option that seems to get good reviews, and Ramsey is another good brand.

I am a bit of a Warn fanboy (if you ask Muppet he'll reel off all the brands I am whore-ish about).

I've got two currently, an XD9000i and an XD9000, would like to add another XD9000 and an 8274 to the lineup as well.

I've rebuilt both of them (the 'i' has a Bow 2), parts availability, upgrades, parts commonality and sheer brute strength is what stops me buying what I consider to be a disposable winch (Runva etc) for myself (my Warns are both 20 years old).

The Super winches are another quality winch, as is Good Winch... but not a lot of support in Aus (plus Warn has a cool sticker, refer to brand whore comment).

Red winches are in another league altogether... they don't even have a lower entry level product.

Tigerz, Ironman, etc aren't worth their mass in cow manure.

Runva is the only cheap winch I'd consider (not for my own vehicles). I bought one for a mates 21st the other day (14 of us pitched in) and that should do him well... but it's definitely under-speced compared to my warn sitting there with 50mm^2 cables.

Does anyone know much about the low-mount Domin8R or the Grande MKIII winches?
How do they compare?
Haven't seen them mentioned much around here, but they are meant to be pretty tough...

Those Tirfors cost as much as a 12000lb electric winch!
But yeah, i have done some crazy stuff and never needed a winch yet, but it would be nice to have it there just in case...
They say you can use the 12,000lb electric winches to pull out stumps don't they! Sounds dangerous!
Although i was plowing up a paddock yesterday with my Series 2a, so i dont underestimate a landrover. :o
