Hey all,
Just bought a used 2005 D3 HSE V8 and love every bit of it! Thanks for the advice, before buying from a few of you, much appreciated!
Picked it up last night and have already done 400kms! Great condition, this is Rick Ardon's old car so it has probably never been to a shopping centre, let alone offroad seeing as it has not one single dent or scratch!
Only thing it has that's out of the ordinary are probably the 22" Antera wheels which I will probably keep on for on road.
I've found a source for some affordable 18"x 9" wheels that apparently clear the v8 brakes with their + offset so can't wait to order those.
The condition of these vehicles, at this age is mind boggling.
Llams first I think, before I break my back lifting the dog out!
Cheers
Russ
P.S I already posted this in the Owners sections, but I for one never scroll down that low so delete if not allowed.
P.P.S The dog weighs 83kgs, usually the first thing people ask!

Nice.
Tell us about the rims.Us D4 owners are stuck with the 19" rims too.
As far as we know there are only the Green Oval Experience 18" rims that fit.

Can't stand looking at paint fade, and there was a little on the roof so when i had a spare 5 mins today i gave it a quick polish and wax test. Comes up great.
Autoglym Super Resin Polish then Meguiar's Carnauba Deep Chrystal Wax.
One question, does anyone know what i'm missing in the tools compartment?
There's some big gaps there and the only one I can identify is the tow hitch?

I'll let you know after a fitment check Andy, the Compomotive wheels(GOE) look worth every cent, just like the Antera's that are currently on the car and retail for around $1000 a wheel. But i don't have that kind of budget unfortunately.....

Btw standard 18 LRrims should fit over your brakes too if you find a cheap set for play.

Same front brakes but slightly different sized (less bulges) callipers from memory. So unless I'm mistaken then yes D3 and D4 standard 18" rims fit a D3 V8.

All good i'll keep an eye out on Gumtree there's only 19" disco wheels atm so no help.
Will just jack it up and try one on the guys front verge before i purchase:D. The front brakes look pretty flat to be honest, not that i'm an expert but no huge bulges?

D4's have different front caliper castings which have what is best described as casting bulges on them those bulges, for the want of a better word, restrict fitting smaller than 19" OEM wheels. There are 18" aftermarket wheels that fit sold by Gordon who is a member here.
Back to the V8 D3, 18" OEM rims fit, they were the standard rim for the V8 model, 19's were a option.

Therefore any 18" rim should fit. :D
Btw ive fixed my pictures in my previous post.

The V8 D3 front brake callipers are the same as the 2.7's but mounted to work on a larger disc. The 3.0 callipers are much bigger.

Well this explains why the manufacturer was so sure they would fit. Too bad though, i thought I might have found some options for the D4 owners.

So I forgot to mention the Coolant Level Low message shows in the info section. AHG said they would fix it, but now i'm considering asking them for the parts and getting Barbagallo to do it, because i don't trust them with him.... Worried they're going to reuse the coolant or something stupid.
The coolant level isn't low, looks like this was common on the 05's and is probably the float sinking/stuck and requires a replacement coolant over flow reservoir. And coolant change.
Hmmmm.

Your summary of the problem seems correct. Had to change mine recently.

There could also be a small crack in the plastic thermostat housing, which happens with age it seems. Maybe get it diagnosed by your preferred repairer. A dealer is likely to try cheaper options first.

Mine (petrol V6) had the same warning when i bought it. It needed a new reservoir.
As rar110 mentioned, the thermostat housing is plastic. If you're unsure of the condition of the housing i would have it replaced as well. They crack and you probably wont know until its too late.

The 4.4 does not have a plastic thermostat housing like the TDV6.

Yeah, this is why i'm thinking it might be better to just take it elsewhere. They did say they are going to replace the sensor though so they were on the money as long as they meant the coolant reservoir that it sits in as well. Most likely thought it was external...
Wiped the leather down in some Meguiars Cleaner and Conditioner today, looks great.
Was stoked when I found the Aux Stereo point today!!! I'd written off there being one because when i opened the manual, it said it was next to the cigarette lighter baha didn't know it was talking about the one in the rear!
