Hi all,

I have got a serious looking oil leak developing on a rear hub. Oil all over outside of wheel.

Quick forum search indicates there is an o-ring which could be the culprit....

Does anyone know the size or details?? I am en-route to Darwin, and if I can, I will pick one up on the way.....

Or, are there any suggestions for a quick fix??

Cheers,

Gumnut

Cant help with size but a quick bodge fix would be RTV but this will require hub removal anyway.

If it's any help I have just measured a new one and it is 90mm outside dia by 3mm dia thick.

Just make sure it is the o-ring, i think i read here that if its coated the wheel then it maybe the bearing seal has gone ?
Oil around the axle tube meant leaking o-ring.

Most likely culprit will be the hub oil seal not the o ring in which case you will need another hub as they are a sealed unit

The easiest fix in the field is to phone a good wrecker and buy the hub complete with the half shaft attached and a new oring.

That way you can replace the whole lot with just regular hand tools and don't need to undo the very tight hub stake nut.

TRS in Adelaide can send you one. About $150 with the shaft attached. I bought one from Discospares in Ringwood vic.

It's easy to R&R this way.

Except that you are paying for a component that you don't need as well as the extra postage/freight cost for extra weight whereas the hub on it's own will fit in a prepaid satchel

Agreed. Trouble is 490nm is a bit tricky by the side of the road!
