Looking to purchase, seen them at the usual camping shows etc, and looking for real world advice on whether you'd recommend.

Also chasing some measurement from ground to the lowest point of the dish, if anyone has a medium size one (14" diameter). So I know if my burner will fit underneath.

I usually have a cast iron skillet, but looking at something a bit more compact for the back of the 90.

For anyone unfamiliar, this is it:

Mate has one and he loves it, quick to cook on and easy clean up.

They are designed to fit over the single burners as well as a small fire.

If I could afford it, I'd have one too.

We have one, and its a great little tool. Comes with a wind baffle, double ended tongs that clip on the handle. Works well over coals and gas. You just have to be mindful setting it up over the small stoves with the aerosol type gas cartridges as they need space. We use ours atop a 2 burner gas stove without issue. I don't have access to it right now as its down on the block in storage, but I'll dig it out tomorrow and get a measurement for you if someone does not beat me to it! :)

Looks like a slick version of the plough disc with 3 stainless nuts welded underneath, that sit on three stainless legs with a thread tapped on one end for dismantling.

My 4mm thick one has a threaded hole in it so I can do a stir fry when plugged, or a normal bbq with the fat dripping on the fire underneath.

Good gear.

I've considered the make vs buy conundrum, but most plough discs I've come across have a hole that big in them that you'd lose a sausage down! Plus I haven't found a cheap supplier. A quick look at ebay some bloke wants 40 bucks used...

Add some welding, some hardware, some time, and everything else (canvas cover) the buy price is not a bad offering.

I cut the 'big hole' square, then welded in a bit of plate with a 10mm hole drilled in the middle, with a 10mm stainless nut welded under.

Removable plug is a 10mm bolt with a tee welded to the head.

The hardest part for me was cutting the threads on the stainless legs....... never again. I'd just buy the right length bolts next time.

This thing was built to suit what I like to cook and last forever, hence the stainless.

cheers, DL

Love mine. First thing in the Disco before I go camping or off road. Used it for 4 years now. A good scrub and a touch of oil post cooking, Mine does not look as shiny as yours mate.

Steel. Treat mine same as a spun steel camp oven. Seasoned from new, then oiled every use. Really happy with it.

They are indeed normal steel. Not stainless. Still not found mine, but to be honest, I didn't look too hard!... I have both.. The one pictured here is a plough disk I made several years ago. This has done a lot and is still the firm favourite with me and Wifetec, and will have a place in the outdoor cooking locker on the truck. That said, the smaller lighter fold up Biji Barbi is just that... Small, light, compact, comes in its own bag and works on the gas or open fire. If you have the space to carry it in your Fourby, time and skills etc, then find a plough disk, weld a piece of 6mm flat into the hole, polish it up, use reo bar for making the handles, and never use it without welding gloves. Cooking on something you've made is awesome. If space is tight, then buy the well built compact Biji. Either way you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic bit of kit that fold up has it's own canvas bag and lays flat to fit into nooks and crannies in the Landy.

When you put the wingnut in the centre hole you can use it to shallow fry fish, chips, fritters and whatever.

Before I get comments about cans in the fire, we do this to get the muck out before crushing them to put in the carry along rubbish bag.

Had ours for over 20 years, easy to pack, easy to use, rarely gets more than a wipe over for cleaning, regularly used instead of a frypan etc over fire/coals

So I ordered the medium sized biji. Got in contact with Tony upton, who manufactures them and was advised that for the dual fuel burner like I have, there is an option where you can get the medium sized plate with longer legs.
Also got the bag to carry it.

Should ship later this week, so hopefully I get it in time for melrose. Otherwise I'll be using the black iron pan
