Please move if not under the right forum,,,,,,

A/C has stopped working.

Control panel works and fan is blowing air.

Compressor is not cutting in

With Nanocom manually turning compressor or fan on does nothing.

Checked fuses and relay all appear OK>

Nanocom shows this fault code

10.5 A/C CLUTCH OPEN LOAD

Any clues?

If the relay is OK it means the clutch solenoid is interrupted or the wiring between it and the relay

I swapped the relay over with the horn. It appeared ok as the horn was working.

Seems weird that there would be wiring a fault.

The Nanocom doesn't turn it on. there doesn't appear to be 12v at compressor.

Wonder if there is a fault with ECU?

Might have to take it to A/C Place.

Do you have enough gas pressure though?, cos the dual pressure switch would cut the compressor's feed if the pressure is low

Not sure.

Was going to bridge the wires on the dryer. But probably book it in to A/C place next week. Maybe have bit more play on the weekend.

that fault means that the compressor clutch circuit is open circuit.

usual cause is a wire on top of the compressor clutch has broken and needs to be reworked.

next cause is the safety fuse inside the coil in the clutch

theres a few minor also rans but start with those 2

do continuity from the plug then inspect the wiring. if you get good continutity to the clutch coil from the plug and it doesnt change then we need to look at the also rans.

if you dont then its one of those 2 and more investigaive work and repairs are needed.

I've had some suspicions and studied a bit this issue, unfortunately it's more complicated than it appears... my conclusion is that there's no way for the ECU to ''realise'' that the clutch solenoid's power circuit is open or not cos that circuit is a simple fuse -> relay contact -> clutch solenoid -> earth connection, no link to the ECU, the ECU would throw a fault code only if there's some trouble with the relay's coil circuit cos that's managed/monitored by it

so IMO to rule out the clutch power circuit the relay's coil must be bridged and if it hits the problem is with the coil management and the system's pressure is involved in that through the dual pressure switch and aircon ECU, to make sure it's something in this area the feed on the relay's coil must be measured when the clutch is supposed to be activated

Update

Took it to A/C place today.

Seems the Receiver Drier was faulty leaking the gas out.

All fixed now.

Now onto the next problem.......

So it seems that my theory was not wrong... too bad that a clutch circuit fault is thrown for low gas presure though:mad:

Might have to take it back to A/C place yet. Looks like he has put dye in it and there appears to be dye in front of Compressor Clutch.

Interesting, haven't heard much about Disco Compressors failing...
