Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I was hoping to join in more after I bought my series landy, but after 9 months of waiting on alerts on carsales, ebay and gumtree I still havent found a LWB series 2 station wagon (got little kids) for sale.
Im starting to wonder if I should import one from the UK perhaps, or if im looking on the wrong websites.
I need to buy one that runs fine as I don't yet have the knowledge to restore one - so hoping to learn as things start to go wrong.
I'd really appreciate any tips of where to find one. I live in Brisbane.
Many thanks
Bruce

This would be a beauty, if only it was RHD 1967 Land Rover 109 inch series 2 station wagon | CarCave (http://www.carcave.be/portfolio/1967-land-rover-109-inch-series-2-station-wagon#)

There are a few about.
I guess it's about getting just what you want for the price you want.

Looks reasonable. Might need a little work.

What about a 110?
1985 Land Rover (4X4) Wagon | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Mackay Surrounds - Kuttabul | 1105168603 (http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kuttabul/cars-vans-utes/1985-land-rover-4x4-wagon/1105168603)
You get coils.

Series 2/2a five door wagons were never very common. They were almost exclusively bought by companies and government, and then only in very small numbers.
Private owners almost never bought any Landrovers new for passenger transport until the 110 was introduced.
I have often thought I would prefer to own a 2a wagon instead of the 110, but the reality is that in the fifty years that I have been driving Landrovers (and hence aware of them!), the number of times I have actually seen a 2a five door wagon perhaps a dozen times other than at Landrover centred events.
Series 2/2a used to be commonly seen on the roads during about 1960-1980, but even so five door wagons were very rare. Mind you, short wheelbase wagons were perhaps even rarer, although needing a good look to distinguish from swb hardtops (Australian hardtops have always had side windows) a lot easier to miss.

There is a series three stage one currently on Gumtree on the North side of Brisbane, would need some work but appears to be in not bad condition if you are willing to look at something a little newer and plastic.

Seems I left an important word....Tray back ute.
Why not get a SWB or wagon and get it engineered for some seats. A member here has a shorty with a forward facing seat for his kids in the back.

Forget the Series 2/2a, this is what you need to get:

Thanks everyone for your input - its great to get so many ideas.
I have a series 1 back home in Zimbabwe, and 2012 SWB at the moment.
So, im def looking for a series this time round, I need a LWB and I want something in the series era, but not a series 1 as I know it wont serve my family of 4 for what we want it for.
Keen to understand the mechanics a bit more (hence a series, not a newer one), love the classics of the old ones, but also need something later than a series 1 to get the whole family in, and head off on 4 hour drives to camping and island destinations.
I think a series 3 would do, just always been keen for a 2 though - think its the metal dash. Im also a fan of completely original - so not interested in a holden engine etc. Unless its not too expensive to swap the holden back to the 2.25 original??
Interesting to hear that there werent many 4 door series landies in Auz - that explains my struggles.
I see them everyday for sale online in the UK - is it not worth shipping one over - has anyone here got experience doing that?
Thanks everyone

Bruce,
Hello.
Importing vehicles into Australia can be a fairly expensive exercise. Beyond the actual shipping charges there is a raft of add ons for cleaning, quarantine and customs. There is also the issue of compliance with the relevant ADRs that applied here at the time the imported vehicle was built - if it has a replacement chassis which is not uncommon in the UK for vehicles of that age there can be an added problem of what year model the imported vehicle actually is. With the escalating prices of Series 1 and 2-2A vehicles in the UK the price of good Series 3 vehicles is also on the rise there. So, unless you can find something genuinely exceptional to warrant the cost and hassles it would probably be more cost-effective to put the cash into a locally sourced later model Defender wagon.
You mentioned having a Series 1 in Zimbabwe. I have been working over there on and off for a few years and will be back there (Bulawayo/Victoria Falls) in July. What part of the country do you come from?
Cheers,
Neil

I've just bought this, I pick her up Monday Morning and she's going straight to Greg Tunstalls for brake and clutch work, then a safety cert and hopefully back on the road, that's unless we find something major. Don't know if I am keeping her yet will more than likely decide in the next couple of days, drop me a pm if you're interested.
She's a legit 10 seater with belts and totally original

Someone posted a picture on Face Book and I recognised where it was, just sold him a forklift! Went over and bought it, recon engine and box, 10 seater and enough new parts to sink a ship!
Do you know what these diffs are?

Looking at it now if it was mechanically sound and had no rust I would think 5k would be a decent price
Generally LWB will not get as much as a SWB, however a LWB S/W is worth paying extra for.

The image showing the rear differential appears to be a std 'Salisbury' as fitted to Series3 the other image is showing a 'Selectro' free wheeling hub, the vehicle wheel in that image is showing a 'FV' prefix so most likely has civvie 110 rims fitted, cheers Dennis

I would have thought a road legal 5 door with most of the history would be worth a lot more than that, oh well it is what it is! The good thing is the value can only go one way :)

It could be worth more, just hard for me to say it is worth more without seeing it. If you advertised it registered with more photos about both good and bad and perhaps a video then it would help giving a more accurate evaluation.

I was originally going to give the wife the Disco and use it as my daily driver, the wife wants to keep her Golf, so I thought I'd sell her as we haven't the room. Now I'm thinking of selling the Disco, we'll see as its early days.
Must admit I'm very very happy with her, Greg Tunstall said today that its one of the best he'd seen and was surprisingly very straight and solid underneath.
I'll keep you up to speed!

As always, they are worth as much as someone wants to pay for it...
This is the going trend with both Series and Defenders with my 2010 90 being insured yesterday for an "Agree Value" of $36,000 which is a mere $4,000 odd off the buying price 6 years ago! The current "Book Value" is $10,000 less...
Price is in the eye of the beholder and cosmetic attention on a Series goes a very long way. There are enough people out there with the knowledge and skill to spot a gem in the rough so to speak, but there are a lot more out there that wants a taxed vehicle with seats in one piece and a engine that fires on the first swing - every time...
A wash and wax plus interior clean up/ tidy up and that 10 seater might certainly be worth more to the general buyer.
Cheers,
Lou

Thanks for that Lou,
The body is straight, the interior is in very good condition and the engine fires up first time every time I tried!
Just doesn't stop at the moment and there's no clutch pedal or master cylinder, but I do have these items included in the spares!

Thought I'd update this thread (I know I didn't start it) :)
The series 3 has had the following done to it at Greg Tunstalls:
Complete new braking system including new master cylinder, 4x new slave cylinders, new shoes with the drums relined, new hoses etc.
Complete new clutch hydraulic cylinder and slave cylinder, hoses etc.
Engine fully serviced including new plugs, filters and a few small bits and bobs and all fluids replaced!
Its now at the Hoo Hars having a couple of small patches welded in the floor, the door tops sorted out and the rear door relined.
Once this has been done its getting a bloody good clean and detail, then its roadworthy time, can't see it failing.
At this point in time I think it will be sold as I don't really have the room, saying that the way the prices are heading I might put it in my mates warehouse with a blanket over it!

I know its did sound quite throaty, a exhaust system was in the back of the car that will be fitted prior to the inspection :)

No I didn't, it didn't have a master cylinder or brake pedal fitted or clutch pedal to think of it. Have had brand new one's fitted :)

Bit of an update on the 10 seater, series rescue have done a great job on all four window tops, the look like new! All the foot wells have been replaced and with Harry's metalwork skills look totally original. Just needs to be refitted and I can then collect her, then its a case of a good clean up and get her out on the open road. This will more than like be up for sale in the next month or so!
