Hi Folks,
To clean the air filter, do you just undo the 6 cross head screws and lift the lid. Or do you disconnect those ridged looking tubes too?
On a TDV8 3.6.

Gday Jerry
I had a crack at this last night as I found this following a service last week where the filter was replaced.

The filter wasn't fitted properly and the foam seal was poking out of the filter box.

Opened it up. The seal is clearly damaged and the filter is not as new looking as I'd expect being 1 week old.

did they bill you for a new filter? Yes. I pulled it out, and definitely new.

So I did the same as rar110 and change the filter. The incumbent one was, funnily enough, damaged in the same way, ie not installed properly.
My car lives in a very dusty city, red dust too and fine.

Filter box still had UK stuff in it! Oak leaves and a wasp I think. Cleaned it out.

Filter box lid spotless. Filter doing its job.

Should breath better now for a while. Where do the air cleaner draw it's air from? In the guard? Not a good place when you are running gravel road systems. I know a couple of D2s lunched their turbos from blocked filters because the owners were not aware of the problem.

Yes, I was not really surprised, and was a reason I took a look after only a short mileage.
The box draws air from the gap between the inner and outer wing, quite low down! Something to remember if going through water.
There is a soft rubber tube that attaches to the filter box and goes through the inner wall.
I have just ordered two more filters from Britpart.

It is staggering that 4wd manufactures give no thought to small but mission critical details such as clean air intakes, but just carry over designs from road cars. Though not surprising really as most 4wds are never envisaged as going off paved roads.
4WD service manager; How is it your air filter needs changing at each service?
4WD owner; Well you see I have this 50meters of unpaved driveway.......
4WD service manager; Really Sir! Why havent you told us? That classifies as severe service!!! :D
Cheers Scott
