Out of curiosity I was wondering what is the typical life of the in tank fuel pump?

What sort of kms have you got out of a pump before you replaced it?

Cheers

Damn thats like a tank of petrol at best.
I think you made the correct decision going for VDO in this case :p

Mine was a bit premature at 220k. Replaced with genuine; 40k later and still ok.

290,000 and 21 years for my D1 original fuel pump. 280,000 for my D2 but jury out at present as it wont start...can hear it but yet to test pressure.

I replaced mine sometime about 210kk. Bought a non-genuine, which leaked at the hoses. Got it replaced by the supplier, which also leaked, so I made a franken-pump using the non-genuine actual pump, and placed it in the original housing. Has been going now for 70kk.

Mine might be stuffed. So perhaps after 300k if not failed definitely on borrowed time. Allowing for my larger tyres mine is 300,000k in real terms. Cheers

I see them last about that 10 - 15 years which in my book is a more than a exceptable service life.... put a VDO one in and go again...

As apposed to the cheap ones that seem to last about 3 months

Thanks all

Looks like km wise I still have a bit to go as Charlie is yet to reach 170k. Years wise I'm in the zone, so if I see an OEM (VDO) or genuine at a good price
I'll buy it for the insurance spares glory box.

Cheers

I replaced mine at 260ish with a VDO. Nothing wrong with the old one, not sure if genuine or replacement. The new one is actually noisier than the old one :D
Sadly it didn't cure my issues but at least now I know.

I am putting in a low k genuine one (about 20,000-40,000k) from Hong Kong d2...plastic still nice and white.

185k and 12 years on mine (original). Still going.

Carry a spare in the Kamper when we're travelling.
