If I do have the shaft to be able to get the kit to fit the cdl in the disco 2, where would it be exactly & what will it look like ???
Ours is a 12/01 model, is the shaft likely to be there ????

Disco SII had no CDL at all for Model Year 2002 (7/01 - 6/02). You can find out for sure by the Vin below
Any SII disco with the vin SALLITGM93[b][size=18]2A............. Does not have a CDL at all

that info is incorrect.
Mine is a Dec 01 also and has the 2A in the Vin and it DOES have a CD fitted. If you like I can fax you a page from the LR manualwhich shows you how to identify the shaft etc.
I am reliably told that ALL 01 models had the CD fitted, almost all from 02 did not.
PM me if you want the page faxed.

I got the info from the LR head mechanic trainer as I am looking for a DII atm. HE advised me this is how to id the trucks with and without CDL.

Sorry Maggot, I didn't mean to offend you but as I said, I have a D2 with the dreaded 2A VIN and in fact my vehicle does have a CD installed, it is not connected. I guess a few must have slipped thru the cracks style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Well perhaps you are thinking on compliance date as apposed to build date, my DII had no CDL in the transfer case, It was built 08-01 i believe, but the compliance date is something like 06-02. It has a 2A vin.
It cost me 900 to have the transfer case modified to have the CDL in it and a further cost of a AMV kit to lock and unlock the CDL.

Who did the modifying for you ??

well the gearbox was removed for repairs under warranty(replaced the whole box) by alto in newcastle, while it was out i spoke with there guy there about it, he said he knew someone that would modify the transfer case, costing me 900, so the 900 was just the modification not removal or reinstall.
After doing a bit of looking around i found that All 4x4 in newcastle did the mods for alto.

I would check it anyway some with your model have found a CDL in the TC so don't dispare.
go under the car and put your hand up beside the shaft on the TC you'll feel a triangle shape of nuts with a large one in the centre if it's in there thats what you'll feel as below shows where the AMV actuator fits
