Getting switch panel back in

After wiring up my radio I noticed I had not seated the Panel back on correctly ...the clock bit at the top was not seated properly ......so I took it back out and now am having difficulties getting it to seat back in ....it is not the wire I
Spliced in that is catching ,......but some where round the radio that stops the panel seating back in ..........is there some trick to getting this panel back in place ?

Look on the back of the radio and you will see a locating lug. That has to be aligned with a hole at the back of the dash cavity. If that's not aligned then the radio won't slide home.

Also look at where the back of clock is going, it needs guiding into the correct place, IIRC it always wants to go below the bit it needs to go above.

Thanks chaps .....got it ...........I think the clock was not aligning properly so the lug was missing it's Mark .........all back in now ........

On a related note, are the existing switches easy to move? I'll be fitting some driving lights soon, and I would like to swap the rear wiper and rear squirter switches over to the left hand side where the two blanks currently sit, and then have driving light switch on the right (next to the switch for the rear fog light).

Do I just remove the panel and move them, or is there a lot more involved?

I'll leave this to someone more experienced to comment .......I tried to get the clock connector off but could not do it as it was not simple ......so I just cut the wires and spliced into them ...............

IIRC the wire loom will be to short for the rear wiper switches to go to the left bank.


As an option..
Change the rear fog lamp lens for a clear lens and wire it to the reverse light circuit(trailer plug wire plug has a reverse feed close to it).
This will give you reverse lights on both sides.
Replace the fog lamp switch with your driving light switch(Mulgo do a genuine look one).

Hi All
My rear wiper & washer have not worked from new - I want to pull the switch panel out to check connections - I removed the 2 hex bolts but not sure what to do from there - don't wish to damage the brand new panel with my incompetence.
Hope someone can provide some detail here.

The panel also has 2 clips holding it in.
It just needs to be pulled off.
It will feel tight the first few times.
The radio and heater controls will stay in the dash.
The clock is screwed to the panel so will be removed with it.

When you remove the centre panel you will see at the very top of the space covered by the panel two hard plastic or hard rubber fixed vents. These line up with the vents on the centre panel. There is a lip behind each vent on the centre panel which slots into the black outlets behind them. Sometimes these outlets sag and the lip of the vents in the centre dash rises over the black fixed outlet and will then push out the centre panel.
To get over this get some strong tape and put some under the top lip of the black fixed outlets and tape them to the dash above the clock. You can now refit the centre dash tightly and squarely. All you have to do is to cut the exposed piece of tape with a sharp knife and pull it away.
I hope that makes sense and is easily understood.
