Hi all I'm having trouble sourcing M14X1.5 coupling nuts... some would know them as extended nuts. I want to use them to attach a KAYMAR HF antenna bracket to my D2 rear door spare carrier. My spare is an alloy wheel so i intend to use the coupling nuts as spacers between wheel and the bracket because it cannot bolt down flush as it does with a steel rim.
Would any of you engineers out there know where to source them from. I only found M14X2.0 up until now :(

How long do they need to be?
Do a search for "Monster wheel nuts", e.g., http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MONSTER-LUG-14X1-5-M14-1-5-48MM-EXTENDED-WHEELS-NUTS-ACORN-RIM-OPEN-END-20-NEO-C-/160714858435

Hi Ron,
25mm long will do it.
I thought I could maybe do it with extended lug nuts but finding steel ones that are NOT closed end however this is yet another challenge, and i do not want to pay for a set when only need three and then have butcher to them to open the closed end.

A piece of hex bar and drill & tap it to suit maybe.

I think that might be the way to go. The cost of a tap might be high but it would be cheaper than buying a set of nuts.
Bob, do you have a lathe or know someone with one? I do but I don't have the tap nor the hex bar stock otherwise I'd make three for you.

If it was wood I'm equipped for that, but no :D so purchasing is the best for me.

thanks Ron (we've cross posted) no to each :(

Grind the end off the closed nuts you've found......
Falcon wheel nuts are pretty long.......

thanks for your suggestion - i got a wrecker nearby and i will look for falcon nuts. I'm also considering purchasing M12 coupling nuts then drilling and retapping to M14x1.5.

What about some standard wheel lug nuts in 14 x 1.5 from supercheap , then just put 2 on each stud with the flat ends facing each other and the pointy end facing the rim on 1 side and the bracket on the other. If you need more distance put a spacer in between the nuts , like a piece of pipe just big enough to fit over the stud.
I bought them when I put the 14 x 1.5 wheel studs on my camper trailer to suit my D3 rims.
Cheers Ean

thanks for your thoughts Ean....... I find that with the alloy wheel mounted on the door bracket the protuding length of stud is too short for your solution (as i understand it) BUT!! it got me thinking.... and with some difficulty i removed the shell cover off one of the spare wheel lug nuts and find that the threaded part of the lug nut matches the length of the protuding stud and then there is an extra 7mm of unthreaded section to the end of the nut. Overall the nut length provides enough offset to attach an accessory and clear the alloy wheel. I'm thinking to contine the thread to the end of the nut to accept a bolt but then 7mm of thread is probably not enough to hold an accessory with security - but in answer to that I could shorten the stud by 3mm to allow more penetration for a bolt or have a bolt welded on to the end of the nut to provide an attachment for an accessory. I favour shortening the 3 studs and tapping the nuts to continue the thread to the end of the nut and shortening the studs a little to allow sufficient penetration for bolt into the nut... I'm sure photos might help here and i will post some when i work it through - i think we have a solution. onebob

Yup they're them! woo hoo!! I seriously couldn't find any online or locally ringing around - i think maybe i saw some on a UK online store but it was all "too hard" by that time or you had to buy box of 100 so i gave up... Pssst where are those ones from?

I have seen them at both Bunnings and Coventry Fasteners - not guaranteeing that they were the particular size that you require.

Thanks Andrew ... I should clarify my earlier post ............. there are heaps of coupling nuts to be found online however they're mainly inch coarse thread, or if metric then oddly M14 is not a common offering and all the M14 ones i could find were M14 2.0.
