Doing my dash

Hi

I am about to replace my dash and heater core and I have made up the following list of things I am going to while it is out.

Just wondering if there is anything I missed?

air box flaps fix
foam on the joints in the ducting.
heater core, Audi A6 version
Heater temp sensor

blend motor replacement
blower motor brushes

Re the foam on the duct joints, this is what I used (when it stops pouring rain, I'll go and check):

It strips down the middle to give you two "corrugated" seals. Have a look at Bunnings.

Steve, make sure the flaps move freely without the blend motors fitted. There was a suggestion that the flaps stick and the fix was to put a screw into the case to spread it a bit. You might find that on the rangerovers.net forum. I didn't do that and it may be the reason the driver's side failed again on mine.

I'm a bit hazy on the details.

The L322 is losing coolant. It looks like the expansion tank has split at the welded seam. :( I've ordered a new one.

I don't envy you.
I've just done a similar exercise late last year and replaced the heater core with an all copper version of the audi core, put all new blend motors on, resealed all the ducts etc etc.
Mine turned into a nightmare, the dash and ducting had previously separated and broke into many pieces. Didn't have access to a replacement fascia, so had to do reconstructive surgery on both then fibreglass reinforce the entire underside of the fascia. Took two days to reconstruct the dash alone. The dash is now rock solid and not one squeak or rattle, heater works a treat but my flaps are sticky as I got the chequebook back permanently after a few drives.
Be ready to repair and reinforce lots of plastic clips, lugs etc.
Allow plenty of time for unexpected.

Well the dash itself came out in two pieces :o

Air box has some crap on the blend flap shaft on the side i was having problems with, it appears it may be melted glue or old grease. Removing the crud and old grease and lubricating it should solve my problem

It looks in good condition.

It's going back together pretty well;

Replaced all the foam
Freed up all the air -box flaps by getting rid of the old hard grease and using Inox
Cut off the stupid right hand side duct for the rear face vent and blocked the outlet
Did the blower motor brushes

Got a small problem with the air bah connector, the replacement I have has had the connector removed and I can't get the pins out of mine to swap it over. I might visit the local auto electrician tomorrow and see if they have the tool to do it

Hey, nice work on the dash. Did you find that you had better "air velocity" between the fans and the vents after sticking your dash halves together?

Mine sucks bad as it can't even blow.

I didn't try to repair my existing dash, I replaced it with good second hand one.

I doubt it would have been possible to repair the old one; it was very badly cracked and warped, apart from being in two pieces !

It now blows much better :D

I also removed the drivers side rear face vent duct and blocked off it's exit. This means a blend motor change is much much easier.

I'll do a write up on this project very soon !
