howdy all, now this is bizarre, in my quest to find juddering coming from the front of my defender, ive discovered handbrake hub oil contamation from rear transfer case seal leaking, and a bit of a dodgy lower gearbox mount
but this afternoon while waiting for my wife to finish work since I still had my overalls on, though id have bit of a look under the defender,
to my surprise I found a left lower front spring seat nut loose it was all the way undone holding on by the nylex, the thread on the nut was shiny which caught my eye,is it possible that the juddering could cause something like this? just when I thought I had it down to handbrake cheers all.

Slip joint on the front prop moving freely? I had one seize, lead to some odd symptoms.

cheers for the reply mate, yea just had a drive line grease front prop shaft is about 50,000ks old its a gkn the vibration especially in reverse nearly shakes the defender to bits only on moving off worse on a incline doesn't happen all the time, strange to find that lower spring seat nut undone
does have a 2inch lift doin my head in.

not had it on a Landy but had it on a Ford and it was clutch shudder - all the symptoms as you describe . I think the clutch plate was contaminated by oil leaking from a seal somewhere. All sorted under Warranty so I didn't need to get my overalls dirty.
cheers,
D
