View Full Version : Correct alignment of cylinder number to adjust Injector

To ensure the injector lobe is at full lift in order to adjust the rocker adjusting screws , there are marks for each cylinder on the shaft adjacent to the cam wheel.
Where exactly should the mark be aligned?
Could someone confirm that the max lift mark (no1 in this photo) should be at the edge of the hole where the timing pin goes - shown by the green line - not lined up with the centre of the hole as in this attached photo.

The Workshop Manual states "27. Rotate engine clockwise until EUI lobe is at full lift." and then "28. Tighten No.1 rocker adjusting screw until the EUI plunger is felt to 'bottom out'." and "29. Loosen rocker adjusting screw 1 complete turn to give EUI plunger the required bump clearance and tighten rocker adjusting screw to 16 Nm (12 lbf.ft). Caution: Ensure screw does not turn as locknut is tightened."
I think it is unnecessary to use any marks etc as there is leeway on the cam at full lift.

The cam lobe has quite a sharp peak to it. What is the date of issue on your manual. Mine has the same info - but there must be further info somewhere about the marks

6th edition 2002. I have done mine this way with no problems. I think the one turn allows for any slight error on the lobe position. Does anyone have any further info?

The correct way, if you are that concerned, is to get a DTI on it and find the top. I didn't find the lobe that sharp, there was a considerable null at full lift, IMHO.
Determining when the adjuster touches the plunger is harder, the resistance isn't a lot as you touch it. I guess you could attempt a feeler gauge by figuring out what one full turn equates too.
I'm guess that the plunger has a bit of scope for adjustment on this, I can't help but wonder if there is a bit of fine tuning for running on reducing the tolerance as more EUI compression must mean higher injector pressure, though maybe a bit of slop and super tight doesn't equate to a heap of anything.
