anyone ever modded a P38 to run without the engine ECU?
I'm going to mod the wife’s P38 and fit a HS 2.8 diesel 8)
only thing I’m concerned about what the engine ECU interfaces to
that may throw a spanner in the works? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
what (if any) connections are there to the trans ECU? or body module?
if I remove the engine ECU (along with the engine) will the trans shift ok?
will the body module have a fit?
any help appreciated
thanks

I am pretty sure the engine ECU controls the transmission.
You can buy aftermarket transmission controllers but they are only for US transmissions and are $2500 when I looked . You would have to revert to a 4HP22 from a Disco or Classic which has hydraulic control..
I also think thereis a lot of interface between the engine ECU and alarm and body ECU, and suspension . immobilisation, suspension operation, aircon etc.
I suggest you talk to anexpert like Graeme Cooper as he often has to sort out problems with these things.
I have often wondered whether you could strip all the computers out of a P38. Graeme Cooper says not economically

I would have thought it was bloddy difficult but have a look at this site,
they sell kits to plonk a Hs 2.8l TVG into just about any Landy including
the P38.

Will set you back about 5,500 pounds or about $13,000 dollars.
Have a look at http://www.v8engines.com/
They do a 135 litre LPG conversion.

Also do a 200 litre conversion but you lose a fair bit of boot space.

that is 5000 pounds (A$13000) + freght + GST & + Duty if you buy from M&D 8O
I already import these HS2.8 engines to sell here (lucky me) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
I sell them here for A$10 000 inc GST (anyone want one?) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
but do not sell any kits engines only
you don't really need a kit as the engine will bolt in anywhere a 300 tdi will
so in this case all I need is a 300 Tdi bell housing and torque convereter, some engine mounts and bolt it in
M&Ds kit inclues a diesel wiring harness to adapt what is in the engine bay to the new non-electonic engine (it only needs 1 wire for the fuel soliniod)
I'm fairly handy with wiring and am sure I can make the diesel run and tidy up any unused wiring I also think I could sort out any small bugs I just want to know what I'm up for in the way of trans & body ECU errors & faults before I start
Thanks

You'd still have to use a P38A transfer case as the P38A diffs are on the opposite side from all previous RRs.
Range selection is done by electric motor driven by the transfer case computer and, probably the BeCM.
