Is there a difference in performance between a Lucas DM2 and a 25D distributor, if both are fitted with a 4-18-12 vacuum unit?

The vacuum unit is not the only thing that controls the advance curve. The weights and springs inside are probably more important. If both distributors came from a landrover 2.25 then they may be set up the same but there may be differences based around compression ratio, tune for pollution control and tune for a particular carby depending on the year they came from. Tuning a distributor is as much a black art as tuning a carburettor.
Cheers,

You're right of course. I forgot about the springs and the centrifugal weights.
