Folks my D4 HSE is now almost 5 years and 164,000km old and I am reaching the time where the larger maintenance tasks are now due.....In all that time I have not had to do any brake work.....no, nothing at all.......I am now looking at replacing the front discs and pads then no doubt I will need to do the rears. I am thinking of using DBA T2 front discs and good old LR plain ones for the rear. Just want that little extra in brake performance when I have my camper trailer behind. Has anyone on this forum used DBA rotors? Or have you thought of using them and then decided not to? What I am looking for is some feedback before I commit to non LR parts. Any assistance would be much appreciated......

wow - not even pad change?

I think I have had 2 sets front, one rear (or the other way...cant remember) - similar kms on my 2011 D4 HSE. done by dealer (Southern). we do tow a bit however. got told on last service its close to need new pads... (a standard line I am sure...but will do the whole lot soon)

I am doing the same shortly and looking at the following rotors
DBA Part Finder - Disc Brakes Australia (http://www.dba.com.au/dba-part-finder/?view=product&make=LAND%20ROVER&model=DISCOVERY&pid=1623)

not set on pads yet. Also not sure if I get a pad worn warning go off, if LR have to re sent when new pad installed?

Planning on doing myself.....

Yep I reckon I can do the disc and pad change myself........hopefully Bodsy's Brake Bible info is good enough to cater for the D4....

Have you noticed that it states "Suits from 12/12"?

Same WOW my MY12 is just about to tick over 45,000km and at the last service (month ago) LR recommended rear pads to be replaced! Apparently the rear pads are pretty small and wear well before the fronts. I'll wait for the sensor to kick in then replace pads and sensor myself.

I recently changed the rotors and pads on a My11 3.0,a straight forward job.I ordered DBA 2096 plain vented rotors, but Veale sent Bosch rotors, which actually have good reviews,so I stuck with them.Akebono pads are not available for the 3.0 front, so went with TRW GDB1898DTE ceramics. It was my last opportunity of using a hoist so I changed out the wheel bearings at the same time...nothing wrong with them and really the brakes still had some life in them.As the pad wear indicator had not been initiated it was refitted to the passenger side.If you go for the TRW ceramic pads the shiny knob[harmonic?]goes on the outside pad. Will wait and see how the rotors run after >20000 ks.

Hi LGM.

From previous threads - you would be advised to replace the sensors as well at the same time. Hopefully more expert people will comment.
