Hi Guys
Any of you experienced aquaplaning in a Disco2 ????
I had 2 interesting experiences travelling to Perth this morning in pouring rain towing a trailer.
I had the cruise set on 100ks,I got the left wheels in the hollow created by constant roadtrain traffic which had water running in it.
Normally when you hit these creeks running down the hwy you aquaplane either left or right .With the Disco it tracked straight and didnt want to be steered out at all,the traction control light came on,it was quite un-nerving the 1st time, but actually seemed "safer" the second time it happened and I had the feel of what was going on.
The tyres were the main problem,I was on the way to fix that,I spose I was going a little fast.
Anybody else had the same "sensation" with the TC and aquaplaning???

I also have aquaplaned my old DII, but not in cruise control. It also went straight ahead.
The danger with using cruise control in the wet is this, in a normal vehicle, it will try and regain lost speed by applying more throttle, and spinning the drive wheels faster, usually finishing with the vehicle spinning out of control,
(the wheel speed's drop when sliding telling the cruise control you are now going slower), in fact when aquaplaning the vehicle will actually be going faster, but the cruise won't know you are sliding! hence the warnings in the owners manuals not to use cruise in wet or slippery conditions.

Traction control may add a new hassle depending on the conditions at the time. If the aquaplaning wheel speeds up, as with a constant 4 wheel drive like a LR, the traction control will brake that wheel to apply power to the wheels with traction, if they spin, the traction control will then apply braking to them. possibly causing those wheels to start to slide.
In your case the right hand wheels appeared to have maintained traction allowing you to steer the vehicle safely and continue on your way.

This would be a fun exercise to do on a skid pan, but not on the highway.
