View Full Version : I am back.... well, soon anyway

Have just bought a 2001 D2 manual.
Not seen it yet, as it is in WA, and I am in SA. Yes, I bought a car, without even seeing it... :o
However, it belongs to a mate's son who is a diesel mechanic. The mate, who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent, owned the car prior to selling it to his son.
So, in a few days, it will be on a truck, and travelling across the Nullarbor in luxury.
It has had all the usual D2 quirks taken care of, and there is nothing that needs to be done.
However.......
What is already on the list to do...
Custom made rear draw unit, with built in workbench / table
Reversing camera
GPS
Bluetooth for phone
Cant wait. :D

So the step from D4 to D2... That's a big one...
Are you ready for it?
If you try to switch gears and don't know why it's not working....
That's a paddlin'. But fear not Simon tells me it's an area of common confusion!
Congrats!!
What will you call it!?

The big, black, beautiful beast will remain, and spend her weekdays doing the boring jobs like school runs and going to work into the city. On the weekends, she comes back to ME.
Oh, and we all know the black ones go faster than red ones. :P

I cannot confirm nor deny his alleged involvement in this transaction.

Pretty sure it already has Bluetooth for phone. He changed the stereo head unit a while back to one which has Bluetooth and phone connection.
The big white aerial on the bullbar is for the UHF - the black one is for phone kit. Coax / plug for phone is hanging under the glovebox. All you will need is a cradle for your phone. Plug in power and aerial and should all work.
Little black box on console is fridge temperature sensor - put it inside fridge when you have one in the car. Readout is mounted near rear view mirror.

Ooohh.... all the tricks...
This is what I love about buying a car from someone that you know. All the little bits of information.
Just waiting for the truck to arrive, now.:(

It used to have a really good sub-woofer and speaker enclosure in the rear too. I reckon you might know where you could find one, custom made, ready to fit.

Basil won't need a phone cradle, just a metal surface that his phone can stick to.

Pretty sure it was under the front passenger's seat. He's in Perth at the moment getting some more tattoo work done - I'll ask him when he gets back.

So, the old adage, "good, fast or cheap - pick any two" seems to have come into play.
After 3 phone calls to find out the status of the transport, and being told 3 times "we" will call you back, I mentioned that I was sick of hearing that, and wanted to know where the car was.
It would appear, "the truck was full" when it arrived in Kal, and thus, my car didn't get a ride.
So the new "proposed" delivery date is now the 28th April. Another week away.
Waiting, waiting, waiting......

So, an update...
After 3 weeks "in transit" the car finally arrived on a train from The West. Interesting to note that they transport them in containers.
I went to collect the car, and they to tell me that even though it was already 2 weeks late, I would have to wait another day before I could collect it. Given that I was rostered to work nearly 48 hours in 4 days, and then it was the weekend, it meant that I would have to wait another week to pick it up.
Lets just say, after a brief discussion, it was agreed that they would unpack the train, and have my car at the depot within 90 mins for me to collect. ;)
So, the car is home. Did the paperwork today to get the rego transferred, and the new custom plates are ordered. Once I have them on, I will take some family photos and put them up.
Any good tips for getting rid of years of Kalgoorlie dust?? :p

The gold in that dust will prevent the vehicle from rusting. :p:p:p
