What about that Boing 727 that was crashed in the desert as part of some 'crash-testing' project ? - was radio-controlled from when the crew jumped ship...to impacting the ground. ?

I think the defining word is " model ' aircraft.

How about the oldest radio controlled aircraft. There was a radio controlled Tiger Moth in the late 1930's or early 1940's.

I will never forget the first time I saw a model jet turbine at a display at Gin Gin
The sound was amazing.

The DH Queen Bee gunnery target. 450 were built, according to Wikipedia, one airworthy example remains. I think they were late 1930s
But I seem to remember that they were not the first radio controlled aircraft, with experiments going back to WW1.

we could go on and on, but there certainly has been larger radio controlled aircraft than that 747 model

You're correct.
A Thousand Apologies.... yes, I mis ed the word 'model', honed in on 'R/C aircraft'.
