parts pricing

Hi all
Preparing for a strzelecki & oodnadatta track ularu trip in June and am purchasing spares to take with me.
I started to priced through LR Direct who I have used before but thought I would get a price from the local dealer.

Obviously the LR Direct non genuine prices were cheaper but then starting to compare apples with apples and when I select genuine LR parts from LR Direct it is cheaper to buy the parts from the local dealer.
So my question is are the non genuine parts suitable (height & speed sensors, brake light switch) or should I be looking at the genuine parts.

For information the non genuine were nearly 45% cheaper but the genuine LR part were 6% cheaper from the dealer (this is taking into account GST and freight so pricing for either is landed in my garage)

Couldn't tell you for sure on all no genuine parts, but...

I just had to replace a non genuine water pump a tad earlier than anticipated due to the bearing seals giving up which allowed a steady trickle of coolant to pass through.

I bought my last few items off Mario & Heather at Roverlord. Prices were good. My research on the parts they provided came up pretty positive. Get a quote from them and ask some questions. Mario seems like he knows some stuff about Land Rover parts and servicing.

For those parts I suggest genuine only. Another benefit with buying the parts from a local dealer is that you also receive a 12 month/unlimited Kim warranty which includes labour. when comparing apples with apples genuine parts are usually quite competitive.

I'm not surprised if you go genuine that the prices are very similar, particularly as the $ is jumping around a bit these days.

However for a lot of online stores there are 3 levels of part quality.

Top of the pile and most expensive are genuine landrover parts
Next are OEM quality which are made by the manufacturers that make the parts for landrover. These will be much cheaper and equal quality. Examples are VDO, Siemens, Valeo, etc.
Last are pattern parts made by other suppliers, often Chinese. These will be significantly cheaper, and buyer beware if you expect they will last as long as genuine or OEM quality parts.

These days I steer clear of pattern parts and whoever possible buy OEM.

We are also getting ready for an epic trip hopefully next week when the caravan electrics are sorted out. What parts are you taking? Inpriced up sensors and hoses etc from a brisbane dealer it came up to a couple of thousand dollars.
I asked two dealers here for information on what i should carry but did not know.
I got a bit of a list off the forum here as a guide.
It is a pity the dealers cannot put a kit together on a sale or return basis

NOTE: this is for an MY14 and some sensor part numbers may be VIN dependent.

You will not get change from $1k for that lot, UK or local.
Listed roughly in order of priority (my opinion and somewhat subjective).
I would only consider LR or OEM for these.

Also, there's a couple of other very good suggestions in that thread for items that are not actually part numbers.
