hi all,

took D3 into getting pink slip when mechanic said all good except front brakes badly worn to metal. so looked for front pads approx $60 for full front on ebay then contacted local LR supplier for under $50 (cheapest in town).

went about replacing the pads, driver side easy enough, pass side has the cabling for the low pad sensor. surprisingly its connected under the mud shield, so out came the mudshield to gain access. upon returning i have now trimmed some of the mudshield to allow a tuck or grab of the connector which is still hidden so future pad changes does not need removal of the mudshield. total cost was under $50. pads were surprising not bad and still had some padding approx 30% left and pad sensor light was not on.

interestingly the mechanic also mentioned the pad wear and lack of oil in the master cylinder due to the extended travel in the brakes. so no need to top up just replace pads and the master cyl oil levels rose back to normal.

lesson - if brake oil levels are low could be a sign of brake pad wear. also learnt where the cabling is routed for future reference. upon installation had the yellow (amber) park brake light come on, and thought to leave to check next day, to my surprise the light has gone, all good.
