Is it the same as the standard Cargo or FFR tank?

No. It's a modified version of the standard tank. I'm guessing only 50-100 were done as they are only for the Australian Army station wagon variant.

I think you could do just as good a job modifying a standard tank. You just need to get the rear step/chop measurements right and fit a smaller diameter inlet for a hose that can squeeze between the chassis outrigger body mounts.

Here's some pics taken when I had my tank out to repair some leaks. Most of the leaks were in seams or cracked welds. The pics show the step and smaller inlet. The screwdriver is pointing to the leak location.

Hey rar110,

My tank seems to be leaking and fuel economy is bad haha. I plan on attacking it soon, any tips?

Yes, do it properly the first time. I ended up taking it out twice to fix it.

The main leak was at the top of the sender. So I used some liquid metal which didn't hold. Then bought a new sender. Here's a pic. I also had a leak from the metal pipe (suction) as the pipe kinked and cracked. So cut it off and attached hose.

I also submersed the tank in water after making it air tight, pressurising it with compressed air and was amazed at the number of places where bubbles were indicating a leak or leak waiting to happen.

I sealed these leaks either by welding or liquid metal. I then sealed the inside by coating the tank with Redkote.

No leaks since and that was 2013.

Thanks for the pics RAR110. Is that a modified tank, or a "real" one?

It's a real OEM one. However, I wasn't that impressed by the quality of the OEM. modification.
