Got the Rangie serviced and tuned.
The service also included the auto gearbox service and verious other bits and bobs.
Now it would have been around the $6-700 mark which, I grant you, ain't cheap but for the fact that I had them instal the 'airbag man' emergency eas kit that I supplied. They did a REALLY neat job which I'm very happy with and I'm glad I didn't tackle the job myself coz it looks like a real nightmare to do a job that nice.

Anyway with an additional 4 hours labour and what have you, the last couple of days has set me back just on a gorilla :!: (that's $1,000 in the old money).

8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O

We'll I wasn't happy. Even the fella at the servicing place nearly fell over when he saw the invoice !!
(it's ok for him though - he's getting the money not paying it out!).

Now I told Mrs Vlad over the phone so she's slightly less likely to kill me as she'll have a few hours to digest it before she comes home. (of course that may just give her time to build up the rage which she will subsequently take out on me :!: ).

The reason this is such an issue is that, currently, we have no f'in money. Or rather, we have a bit over the required $ in a savings account BUT

or rather, BUT (it's a big but...) ...

...that savings account is the WEDDING account :!: 8O :!: :!:

Yep, I'm a dead man.

I don't think that I have ever had a service on my Range Rover that ended up less than $1000. The last time it was in, I had the auto transmission overhauled. At least it gave me a chance to get the rear main seal done without having to pay for the transmission to be removed. You have to look on the bright side when you are forking out $4700 don't you!

Ouch!!!

Can I ask why you were expecting a service to cost that much, it seems like a heck of a lot :? :?

I also hear that kidneys are fetching a good price at the moment style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

For that sort of money, I do my own servicing even on Aquarangie I did. The auto trans I get serviced and only costs me $150 for every 20 thou.

No servicing Rangies ain't cheap in anyone's language. That's why i won't fork out money to buy a P38A and while thay are a terrific unit, anything I can't do myself I'm not interested in

But that's me.

This is why I do my own servicing as far as possible.
For every car that I've owned (mostly so called orphans) I've allways bought the workshop manuals and spent considerable time and effort learning the ins and out of that particular car. This especially applies to the Rangie. In the 22 years that I've known my Rangie it has NEVER failed to bring us home.

If you could let us know prior to it happening, Vlad, just to give us WA Aulorians enough time to save a little dosh and plan a convoy to get there.

I can't wait for your eulogy, we'll be able to find out how many people you have affected during your short term in this place style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

There is only one thing to do.

Rely on the Comparison Method.

Set the expectation it'll be $2000 and you'll need to postpone the wedding six months.

Then when it's $1000 it'll look like a relief and she'll be happy.

(note please don't blame me if this results in bodily harm)

Well, I'm still alive... at the moment.

When I told her how mcuh this weeks pay was (due to some OT I had done) it took the heat off a LITTLE bit. Only a little mind you.

I sure there's plenty of resentment she's still saving for the appropriate time.

It would not be funny at all if someone phoned Vlad while he wasn't there and left a message with Mrs Vlad about "the offer he put in for Series III that needs a restoration has been accepted ".

Nope, wouldn't be even remotely amusing.

And they said he got a bargain because he was good at flirting.

Reminds me of the time a girl rang and asked for someone (wrong number), to which I replied "Sorry, he's gone out with Jenny tonight."

Phone slams down.

Or the time the very newlywed wife of a colleague rang and asked for him. I held the phone away from me and yelled, "Robin, there's another woman calling you!" He answered - she slammed the phone down in his ear. He still talks of it - 30 years later (he's still married to her).

Women rise to the bait so easily. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
