I have been looking into mounting a hydraulic winch for some time and I came across a few posts on the internet that suggested a ZF74 pump. This unit could be mounted in place of the existing power steering pump. A presure regulator would then be used to keep the steering rack in one piece :) and the increased volume and pressure would be put to good use on the winch.
The site that used to sell these kits, 4x4winches.com has long since gone out of business and there is very little information on these units to be found. I did find a thread here on the forum http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/106352-hydraulic-winches-any-good-4.html which only refers to it as a midget :) but no further information.
ZF products have a 10 digit product number and without it I can't really get anywhere. I did have contact with ZF lencksysteme GMBH but it seems bosch has taken over this business. Even then, with only the number 74 the (very helpful) guy I spoke with can't help me any further.
I'll try my luck with Bosch but I do not hold much hope, so, does anyone here have one or have the actual 10 digit product number of the pump?
I would like to keep things as standard as possible since on my GEMS V8 the pumps and alternator sit way up high, out harms way of water and mud and mounting an extra pump would not be my preference so a replacement pump would be perfect.
Thanks!
