All,

Below copied from Carsales website; Re the diesels, assume D5 will get 200 and 250kw Diesel engines and 300kw engine will end up in RRS and RRV (unless they do an SVR D5 with the 300kw diesel or 370kw petrol?):-

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will roll out all-new straight-six diesel and petrol engines next year and phase out all of its current ageing V6s.

Designed for all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive applications, the new straight-six engines are part of the Ingenium family of engines that already power -- in four-cylinder configuration -- the Discovery Sport and Jaguar XE.

Developed in-house at JLR, all engines will be direct-injection turbocharged 3.0-litres, says British mag Car, which broke the story, and will be offered in three states of power for both the petrol and diesel.

The petrol line-up will consist of 225/300/370kW outputs with the most powerful version of the 3.0-litre expected to come with twin turbos.

The diesel 3.0-litre, meanwhile, will be offered with 200kW in entry-level form, 250kW for the mid-spec diesel and a mighty 300kW for the range-topping straight-six that could replace the current 4.4-litre V8 in the Range Rover.

The advantage of the new Ingenium straight-six engines are their comparative light weight and low internal friction that said to bring significant gains in fuel consumption.

The new engine is also said to tap into Jaguar's famous straight-six heritage.

The current Aussie Disco Sport doesnt have the ingenium 4cyl,it comes out in the next MY upgrade.
The one I drove had the old freeloader diesel, went quite well too,the ingenium ones in the UK go really well Ive read.

Straight 6 should theoretically be smoother than a V6. Should be nice.

Hopefully they have given the timing belts the flick and gone back to chains.

The ingenium in the epoke has service intervals of 2yrs and 32,000k's.
Lets hope no one gets one that uses oil..

As every engine gets a flash upgrade to max power!

Did I read somewhere that the oilers are single turbo?

If so, won't there be a turbo lag issue or can that be easily defeated and still have a high power/torque ratio further up the rev range?

Turbo lag - auto - 275kw = a big kick in the back every time you plant it ;( - had it in my wrx - not fun in city traffic

variable vane?

variable vane?

I'm familiar with the variable vane concept but thought there are limitations when pumping out big numbers, thus the current models having two turbos.

There is the technology out there now for electric turbos, so a large turbo can be used with no lag. The electric just assists when off boost to keep it spooled.

That said, we probably would have heard about it if they were going to use one.

As usual, LR will change things after their first release D5s. It has always been like this, remember the first D$s and the subsequent changes. "Fools rush in……."

Since the Defender started life with Rangie bits, that's a step backwards :D
